Anyone know how much Naproxen elevates your blood sugar and if they use an alternative pain relief that doesn’t raise their bs my knees are killin me and I heard that pain can raise it anyway

I can't answer your question about the amount that Naproxen raises bg, I have taken it long term and cannot get my bg consistently in the 4s. I have tried to lower the dose I take but failed, however, over the few months that I have been on the LCHF lifestyle I have noticed a slight lessening of inflammation so I plan to try lowering the dose again at some point with the hopes that I can stop taking the drug all together.
Sorry, I know nothing about an alternative NSAID that does not cause raised bg. Hopefully other members may be able to suggest some though it would be wise to speak with your GP or possible a pharmicist about this. Good luck.

Thanks for the response . Don’t mind me askin what was your dosage ofNaproxen I was on 4 a day . But cut it to 2 . Then stopped it altogether when I heard about the side effects but my knees are in bits and struggling in work . I work in the construction game and it’s a serious effort every day

I am on 1000mg per day (2x500mg). I was told this was the maximum dosage unless you have gout, which I do not. A few months ago I dropped one tablet then the remaining one but saw a return of the inflammation so I had to return to the original dosage but like I said, as my bg levels have come down so has the level of pain (slightly). I would so like to give up taking the Naproxen so I can also give up the Lanzoprazole.

A couple of years ago, my dentist recommended Turmeric, as I can't take Ibuprofen. She said it could be taken in capsule form or in food but if taken in food, to brush teeth straight after or they would turn yellow.

I Googled Turmeric and was surprised it was used as a natural treatment for arthritis. I found that after about a month the pain in my shoulder had disappeared, so this was a bonus. I only take one capsule per day but according to Google, others with very painful arthritis take a lot more than this, and it relieves their pain.

You could try it to see if it helps.

This presentation (35 mins) is not specifically targetting arthritis but it is mentioned. A few months ago I cleared my kitchen of all vegetable (seed) oils on the strength of emerging evidence that they are inflammatory. See also Nina Teicholz (sp) on veggie oils. I have heard one boffin (can't remember who it was) stating that it could take as long as four years to rid the body of veggie oils so, for me at least, it is too early to say whether this strategy alone will/has caused a lessening of inflammation. Fingers crossed.

So the Naproxen drops your bg . I’m not on any meds
So maybe I would be all right on them

I have Rheumatoid arthritis. About 3 months ago I bout myself a herbal tea with ginger, but it was only when I read the label properly that I saw it had turmeric. Two days drinking a cup a day and I felt much less inflamed.i stopped for a few days and the inflammation came back. Started again and I felt better again.

No, the Naproxen (plus a couple of other drugs I take) raise my bg. Not to a massive extent but enough to make me try at least to lower the dosage. Do you take it every day or just every so often?

Sometimes we just have to compromise. I am going to try turmeric capsules as has been suggested upthread. I do not much like the taste of turmeric so I will have a look at supplements.

Hi All, I have Fibro among other things - knees and elbows are particularly bothersome for me where the tendons attach to the joints as well as along the muscles themselves - and I regularly take tumeric - called curcumina in the supplement form - three capsules /day. It really helps with the general aches and pains of Fibro as well as these painful parts.....Have been out of it for a few days now and really notice the difference!! Got some today so I am sure in a couple of days I will feel less pain! Someone - sorry I forget who - on this forum gave a recipe if you care to make a "paste" if you wish to use it in cooking.....one word of caution - work up to a dose that suits you as it can cause some Bowel response that isn't pleasant - diarrhea!:( Hope this little antedote helps! Cheers/L

Peadair, whilst ditching your pain meds might have seemed like a good idea at the time, if you are in pain (which you obviously are), then whilst the meds might nudge you bloods up a little, then without them there is every chance that the pain, broken sleep, resultant fatigue and so on, could do exactly the same thing, except you will have lived with the pain, and if you're anything like me, might have got a bit grumpy along the way. Pain is not my friend.

Sometimes, we have to find a balance that makes our lives liveable in the best way. Living longer term, with pain, doesn't appeal to me too much. Please don't put hurdles in your own way. Mother nature can do a plenty good enough job of that, uninvited.
