Him some of you might have seen my posts!
My little boy 3? Was diagnosed in feb.
I'm heart broken to say the least.
Been keeping up on the research on the AP, did you all see the media covrage?
I'm so excited!!
Feel so positive for this!!
Do you's think it'll be reality?
Even I it takes 20 years my baby will still be young x x x x

Hi Mrs Miles,
Told you it was not long! To paraphrase what the head of Diabetes UK research said, "it's years not decades away". I'm very excited by this too, to not have to be constantly thinking about my diabetes with everything I do. This is the the most positive development in the (nearly) ten years I've had as a diabetic. :clap:
 
Hi I am curious to where you read about AP? I must have been sleeping as I've never heard of it. I've had type 1 for 47 years and the treatment is the same as when I was diagnosed at 5 years old. Smaller needles, pen injectors however same old injections and rules
 
Thanks Sam just read the article, very interesting as I have had some nightmare stories caused by night time hypos. Unfortunately I live in Scotland and we seem to fair badly in trials although I would say that ERI kidney/ liver transplant unit is currently undertaking beta cell implants on type 1 ( high risk, no warnings symptom,) patients at present. May see improvements in my lifetime..... then again! B+ not just my blood group
 
I'm so excited for this! Even if its 20 years away Oscar will only be in his twenties!
I know they have been working in it but to go public like that... Exciting!
Half of Oscar's DLA is going away for him, want him to be first in line! Other half on spoiling him!! It was also on the itv main news! Happy happy!! [THUMBS UP SIGN][THUMBS UP SIGN]

As I said in another thread discussing the same subject it does look promising, hopefully for the sake of youngsters (like your Oscar) this will see the light of day and become standard treatment in the not-so-distant future.
 
Although this is really exciting and the most successful thing so far, there's been so many times when we've had our hopes up only to feel gutted when nothing comes of it.

I hope that this is the one tho, no more injections woooooohoooooooo!!!!

Fingers and everything else crossed!! Surely they can't say that it will be available with such confidence if they didn't think it would. Actually praying to god here!! :-/
Although like I say I'm forever thankful for insulin. Oscar is so healthy and happy and I dread to think other wise x x

Fully understand what your saying about false hopes and I could write a book on them all, however Diabetes UK do seem quite positive on this one so we can only hope that it does become reality one day :thumbup:
 
To be fair I'd be happy with a a bloodless metre and maybe one injection aday I think they call it smart insulin, just really think the future is bright, but then again things are not that bad if they stay the same!
Oscar still does everything the same as before only I have extra grey hairs!! X

The AP has been in trials for a while... first adults, then children, in clinic and now in the home. Small numbers but its progressing. Since Diabetes UK fund the research its a fitting story for Diabetes week. The notion is to use an algorithm so the pump and sensor 'talk' to one another and can regulate BG with minimum input from the user. We are looking at 10 years at least but as control is what we are all after, its a great milestone

Any of you checked out the bio hub? Sounds much much better than this AP and they say 5-7yrs before its available. Someone posted about it on here but I can't find the link. It regenerates beta cells and stops them getting re-attacked by the immune system by protecting them in a hub that the immune system can't get to...basically it's a cure that stops the immune-attack from destroying the Beta cells which is the most important thing


Diagnosed with GD in 2010, Completely disappeared postpartum. Re-diagnosed December 2012 with type 1.5 diabetes, age 26, BMI 23 currently controlled by only Metformin, 500mg twice a day.
 
Yep bio hub looks great too, think I've seen everything and researched everything! Thinking the biohub looks too good to be true! Hope I'm wrong!!
Think I just got excited because of all the press coverage.
Really think the future is bright though!
They also started trialling once a day/weekly injection today in addenbrookes, looks promising too x x

I was also diagnosed this year in Feb!:') im 16 though, must be hard for your 3 year old & for you as a parent, hope he's dealing with it well, bless him!, my friend told me about this topic on the news, it would be amazing for all of us!

I was diagnosed in February too, I'm 23 though.

Although this is exciting and I wouldn't turn it down! I have found that in all honesty diabetes hasn't disrupted my life all that much. Maybe is due to my age and the stage of life I'm at, but apart from a could needles and a slightly altered career path I just carry on as usual. I'm a positive person and I look on the bright side - I'm still alive and diabetes is something I can control myself.

So bring on the AP or Biohub or once a day injection research, but until then we just have to keep on going!

I do agree, although cant really speak for Oscar if things stay the same it isn't that bad.
Just really hard to manage a child, so unpredictable and growing etc, don't think his levels will ever be stable! Although they say its to be expected with his age x x
