Socks are as serious a matter as shoes.
I have a second toe on each foot that is about 1cm longer than my big toe. Apparently the ancients thought it a sign of Great beauty  . I just find it a great pain. literally and figuratively. With any ordinary sock, as I put on a shoe, the sock pulls up on that toe and as I walk it gets pulled too. As a result, I've bruised the nailbeds and lost the nails countless times. Now I have discovered toe socks. I wear woolly ones for walking, (in my cotton Traders boots) and silk 8) ones in my normal shoes. Actually, I often go without socks,( I can't bear seams in them) but these are the only ones I'm comfortable in. Luckily I've given up skirts between September and June, so don't need to wear tights, which are even worse than socks. they either don't come up past my knees( I'm only 5 feet 8!) or up to my bust and the waist too big, so fall down.
T1 husband isn't meant to wear socks with elastic on the calf, so I try for knee highs for him. Hard to find in men's. Or sometimes those with no elastic that are meant to stay up unaided, or flight socks, to help the leg circulation
