Hi all, My last food post here:

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7729

I'm now taking the plunge 8) I've spent every 2 days down the gym for the last 4 weeks and havent lost a pound (well i've lost 53 as payment for going there  ) so i deduce its my intake thats the problem.

I've read and read this forum, books and taken advise from my mother (that makes me sound young but I'm 39 she's 76). She been type 2 insulin dependant for 15 years and has had long and meaningful conversations with her specialists, consultants, gp, nurses and just about anyone else with an opinion on diabetes. Mainly because she wants to bloomin well know what its all about and secondly she is blind from glaucoma for about the same time period and can talk and talk and talk

Before I even came here her opinion was egg and bacon every day to get you going is perfect, dont touch white flour in any shape or form (breadcrumbs on food catch people out - point proved to me last night when shopping the mother in law picked some fish up and offered it to me. I reminded her of the the bread crumbs to which she replied there was only a little bit :| )

So I come on here to read tempers frayed about this that and the other and up pops the low carb section. I read through the, excellent, newbie guide and the 'success' stories and thought all those people cant be completely wrong! So I want to 'lower' my carb intake. I read what my mum had been telling basically (dont you hate it when they're right :) )

Last night tesco's addlestone officially beat the credit crunch after i had left  didnt realise meat could be soo expensive, but all in a good cause (i did pick up premium but after a few packets went in the trolley i found that blue stripe can be just as good :) so swapped )

last night had BBQ'd sausages (2) beefburger with a slice of cheese (2) and a pork chop (nothing else). This morning 5x Bacon 3x Eggs cooked in butter, nothing else BUT i've had 1 x Tea & 1 x Coffe, both decaf with ...... skimmed milk <- is that allowed. I reckon it is as what i've eaten is 'lower' carb.

I plan to have a couple of pork belly strips bbq'd woth salad for lunch and roast a chicken with salad or veg for tea - sound good??

Sounds wonderful! I love belly pork, the only thing is the difficulty in cutting through the fat on the palate, normally a sweet marinade would be ideal for this. I was considering doing a cucumber and carrot salad (thin strips of each), dressed in rice vinegar and a little soy to go with my pork belly next time. Can't guarantee it but I think it should work.

I've got a few low carb vegetarian books (I'm a carnivore at heart but do try :D ) was gonna give myself a two month low carb veggie challenge just to try and introduce variety and reduce reliance on expensive meat.....but it is BBQ season so maybe later :D

IMO you were lucky she wasn't reconditioned in the meantime, the current dietary policy was only changed around the seventies/eighties. Right around the time all these "epidemics" of genetic diseases started.
