Ashamed.....

My cholesterol is 6.8 which shocked me-lettuce leaves it is then
nope you don't have to do that either..the jury seems to still be out on whether higher cholesterol is actually bad for you but even so a LCHF diet has been shown to lower cholesterol levels (especially the "bad" bits) for many here. I can't testify to that yet as my last tests didn't include it, due to having had one 3 months before according to my Practise Nurse. So have some butter on that lettuce and enjoy it.

Reading over the lchf stuff & it goes against all I've ever thought!!! Spreading butter on cheese (an extreme I would think). It's definitely a learning curve. But thinking about it, it's makes sense I don't eat lots of sugar but do eat carbs lots & ive been at a loss as to why the weight isn't coming off especially as I'm very active

I was doing the same as you. Now, thanks to the info on here, I have been LCHF for 4 weeks and lost 2kg and my blood sugars are going down. I dont smother stuff in fat but i choose whole fat cheese, milk, butter and cook fried food in goose fat. I put olive oil on my salads too etc. I use the fat in the meat stock for gravy. I am also using MyFitnessPal to monitor both my carb intake and calories as I have lot of weight to lose.

Onwards and upwards!!!!

Maybe this'll turn out to be a good thing? If you know what I mean....
It's certainly turning out this way for me! I felt exactly as you do when I was diagnosed, but now - 8 weeks later - I realise it's given me the kick in the pants I needed and I'm actually enjoying the journey! LCHF is the way forward for me; I've lost almost 7kg in those 8 weeks and my BGs are consistently back in the "normal" non-diabetic range.
Stick with us - and good luck!
:)

Yes, it's a funny thing. I was shocked when I got my diagnosis just over a couple of months ago and was quite frightened about dealing with it, but I'm now 2 stone lighter, down a dress size and eating a diet which I am enjoying. I thought I would never get used to not eating carbs but the truth is I'm eating better quality food and rarely hungry. If I am I have a little bit of cheese, a few nuts or one square of 85% chocolate. My fbg is way down. I have lost weight with ww in the past but have never really got past the idea of being on a diet. I now accept that this is how I need to eat.
I am looking forward to buying a fabulous party dress come Christmas!
