soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
T1 husband cut his Glargine to 18 units last night and we got safely through to this morning. Would you believe his "Getting up" reading was still 2.9!!!!! There was still some orange juice left over from Thursday. He's come down from 36 units night and morning. Yes I am cutting his carbs.
What ever calculation did the Hospital diabetes clinic use to set such high doses? No wonder he weighs about 17 stones. Where is the formula for calculating total Insulin requirement?

A possible formula is for every unit of fast acting insulin my BG moves down around 3mmol. Now it's different if say I don't exercise and gain excessive weight - the speed my insulin is absorbed is slower and sometimes the insulin is somewhat lost in my system somewhere :? Maybe guage this and see what happens. Also encourage him to exercise more to obtain a healthier weight. I am not sure what exercises he could do but maybe get the clinic to comply by telling him what exercises are suitable for him right now.

As for the doses - well the diabetic clinic can only guess but they should make a gestimation based on recent results not throw any old dosage of insulin at your hubby. After complaining profusely to my clinic (I won't go into detail again but mobile phone calls to friends during my consultation were a bit out of line) I am now obtaining (in December) a Glucose meter which is attached to my body and it tests my BG 300 times an hour so they can get a really good idea of what my BG is doing all day and all through the night and discuss how to manage my BG better (as it's pure hell trying to obtain good control and has been for years). Maybe this could benefit your husband if you discuss with him this option and then he could ask the clinic about it :?:

Thanks Rach, you've given me something to work on
