Hi All,
I am managing my blood sugar reasonably by diet only. Recently I stopped taking Atorvastatin as I thought it might be causing IBS-d type symptoms.

To my surprise my blood sugar levels dropped quite significantly and seemed less affected when I ate naughty foods.

Anyone else had this experience or even has tried different statins?

Matt

Its a known side effect of statins in general
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases...rol/in-depth/statin-side-effects/art-20046013
Some Blood Pressure meds also raise BGL, as do steroids. There are other meds that can also give this effect such as diuretics, prostate meds, and some heart meds.

If I forget my morning meds (which contain a diabetic med to reduce bgl) then my levels drop by a full 2 mmol/l in the day.

I tried this too but had to stop as it was making my joint pain WORSE!

Here is the Atorvastatin trial that was used to claim a licence for use from the FDA

If you look at the section titled Patients you will see that they were very selective in who could be included in their trial. People who are obese, or diabetic or having metabolic disorder, and women of childbearing capability were all excluded, These same groups are precicely those that the drug is now marketed at, but have not been tested.

My hba1c increased from 48 to 54 when I started taking Pravostatin but after I stopped taking it due to other side effects it reduced to 43 within 6 months and has remained at non diabetic levels for approx 9 years
