In one of your posts you say 150-180grams of carbs a day, now does this mean checking how many carbs are in 100grams of food and then have as much as 150-180 a day ?OR HAVE i got this wrong ? how do you work out your 150-180 g per day ???

It means he counts the carbs in each meal, and adds it together to see how many carbs he eats in a day.

He probably allows himself about 50g per meal.

How does he figure that out in everything he eats ?you would have to be a computor

No, you need to read th nutrition labels on everything very carefully, and you could buy a book such as the Collins gem carb counter. Believe me, math is not my strong point, but I easily manage my carb count.

As Defren rightly says..With a Collins gem carb counter and a set of Kitchen scales for loose items It's not so bad!

Agree. I bought digital scales to make sure my amounts were spot on, and can calculate a carb to an inch of it's life.

That seems to me going a bit to far, could not see the wife doing that,I test after 2hrs and do it that way.

Veg are not nil carbs but they are very low. They should make up the bulk of your diet. The ones with less carbs grow above ground, higher carb below ground. But all except potato's and parsnips are not too bad if your daily carb tolerance is higher. Meat is carb free, eat as much as you like. Gravy watch out, the thickener will either be flour, cornflour or other wheat based product, check the label on the brand you buy. I avoid gravy, but try and test.

Well, if you want good BG and don't tolerate carbs well. then it's what you do to save you sight and your feet. All personal choices. I like my sight and feet.

Hi Celast! Sorry i missed your post, i was away at a wedding all weekend, picking bread and pastry off everything so i could get something to eat!
The others have described what i do very well. All packaged stuf is easy, it's on the packet in terms of how many grams of carbs per 100, so I only have to work out how many 100's I'm eating of that to see my carb intake. For loose stuff, like veg or fruit, I just used to google "carb content of..." and you'll see a dozen sites giving you how many carbs in everything. So i know new potatos are 15 grams of carbs per 100 grams of spud, my 3 very small spuds come to about 100 grams in weight, so that's 15 grams of carbs. I say used to, because after a while you get used to how many carbs are in everything so you don't need to do the sums. In fact, I know how many carbs are in every meal or snack I have nowadays so don't have to look anything up hardly - only if it's something new. You'll soon get the hang of it and see how easy it is.
By the way, I'm normally nearer 150 grams per day than 180, but as I'm not trying to keep to such low levels as others, i don't need to be quite so precise.
