Attack of cystitis making me feel awful

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
Of course it had to happen at the weekend when I can't get to the GP and it's probably not serious enough for the out of hours service. I've been to the pharmacy and got an over the counter treatment. I know to use bicarb in water and drink loads.
It's probably my own fault. I can't have washed my hands thoroughly enough after changing a VERY YUKKY nappy yesterday. didn't want baby to run off into the garden and fall down the stone steps. :x
If my BG goes up, I'll see the out of hours doctor, otherwise I hope it will clear in a couple of days. I've had it before, but I'm not a chronic sufferer.
Anyone got any more good ideas?

Hi Handar
I get this too, I take two paracetomol each 4 hrs and every hour I drink a mug of fairly strong black coffee. After each pee I drinnk a glass of water too. Also, a hot water bottle between the legs (very fetching but it works!!) seems to help. Sometimes it has stopped it in its tracks within 3-4 hrs.

Hope you feel better soon, if you have a pain in your back or groin i would see an out of hours dr as it may be a water or kidney infection.

Sterling advice from chrissieworne, hana. I can vouch for the hot water bottle! works a treat along with gallons of water and paracetamol.

I used to suffer from cystitis fairly often. The doc recommended drinking loads of beer or lager to flush it away. I know it's probably not the healthiest option, but it did work, and it is a hot weekend, so you have an excuse. :D

Thanks for the suggestion thirsty
I just HATE beer In fact I'm pretty much tea total, but you gave me a laugh. I am actually feeling a lot better now.
loads of water and the pharmacy remedy seems to be doing the trick. Last Bg was 5.4, so it's not much of an infection.

Feeling better

I seem to have stopped the cystitis attack in its tracks and i'm fine this morning. I shall keep taking precautions for another day or so and make sure I wash my hands better after changing nappies. I will also ensure that there are no "escape route" for baby, while my attention is in hygiene and not her.

I get occasional bouts - water, but at least double the recommended intake from the earliest twinge and you need to carry on for at leart a week after the symptoms have gone.

cranberry is supposed to make the bladder less "sticky" for the bugs. H&B sell a cranberry extract that I have dropped in to water.

Hot water bottles are good too, as well as pain relief.

Sounds like you stopped it in its tracks :D

Just a reminder,if you are any sort of blood thinners then you should not take cranberry juice as it interferes with the action of the blood thinners.

 Can you point me in the right direction for more info on this, I wasn't aware of this. Drink cranberry juice is a peice of advice handed out by all and sundry, I have even heard homecarers suggesting this to their clients, although I have always been a bit wary of the fact it usually comes packed with sugar or artificial sweetener :? So I was very pleased to find the H&B extract.
