Availability of Insulin for non-resident

Hi folks

New to the board but wanted to ask a question in regards the availability of Insulin for Type-1 Diabetics who are non-residents. Myself and my girlfriend are considering moving to the UK for work, she has Type-1 Diabetes (uses pump) and here in Ireland she has a LTI book which allows her to get as much free insulin as she needs. Does the uk have anything similar for those with Type-1 Diabetes? Do those who have Type-1 have to pay perscription for the insulin or is it free only for residents?

Essentially we are wondering the financial implication of getting Insulin in the UK for those who are Type-1 and non residents, if any?

Many thanks.

Your wording confuses me - if you are moving to the uk permanently, then you are entitled to free NHS care, including free prescriptions for diabetics... However, if you come to work and live in the uk then you'd also be considered a resident

Hi Alex

Thanks for your reply and apologies on the wording. We are currently researching so was unaware we would be a resident straight away if living/working in the UK from the get-go.

Thank you for the Information :)
