Avocados

And I don’t begrudge you your preference.
Nor me yours but starting the thread with
"Avocado is something I have ignored over a life time as I have never enjoyed them." it makes it sound like you really dislike them.. Hence my response.
If it had said "retrying avocado what do you guys do with them" it may have got a completely different response?

I had never eaten avocado. Lat year I decided to try them. I made a mess of the first, trying to get the flesh out of the skin and from round the core. Threw it away. Tried again, still made a mess but managed to eat it. It tasted awful. I decided they aren't worth the bother.

Like I said, with a wealth of other options to choose from I never touched them. I am not actually a fussy eater but they didn’t appeal to me. At parties get together s etc I always found something else. But like I said my choices are narrower now so I am having to consider other options. And.... I thank all those that have contributed to the thread in a positive way to give me some good suggestions.

I perhaps didn’t give avocados a chance before, but you know people have been strung up for less.

And...I have learned how to spell them.

I like avocado but stopped eating them a year ago when I declared the War on Carbohydrate. I’m sure I can eat them just fine now but honestly I’ve got out of the habit and don’t miss them. I prefer animal foods where possible, with my carbohydrate intake being limited entirely to green overground vegetables and a splash of cream in my coffee.

LOL

The one I had this morning didn’t taste of anything but I gather some have a distinctive taste.

Are they fruit or vedge, I will have to look them up? My wife says they grow on trees in her home country.

I’m not entirely sure but I think they’re a fruit. My motivation at the time was to fully elimate all unnecessary carbohydrate in an attempt to reverse complications and all insulin resistance. It worked. Now I just take the view that I may as well stick to what I’m happy with and keeps me healthy. But they are very nice and if they fit into someone’s dietary strategy then they’re a good choice for those that enjoy them.

Totally agree, Jim. Thanks.

I also take the view that the road of temptation - adding back in foods that I used to eat - may lead me back to the town of Diabetesville. I believe that the diet I used in order to reverse diabetes is the one that will keep it reversed forever.

I am not sure what should be done with these. Should they be cooked at all or always eaten fresh? My wife eats the flesh mashed up with milk and sugar so I shan’t be doing that. She even talks of Advocado ice cream.
@Listlad I started a thread on Avocados a while back, plenty of ideas on eating them amongst the various prices around the world.

I have not bought any for a while, but will have to put them on the list again. We cut them in half, pop the seed out and put a dash of salt and ground pepper with a sprinkle of chilli flakes on them.

Then into them.
