Hi everyone. Been on and off the forum
.. as much as I've been on and off this diabetes journey.
burying your head in the sand and pretending your not diabetic doesn't work. It sure is a rollercoaster. Back on the meds, 80mg gliclazide twice daily. It's helping but not having the effe t effect it used to do. I rang gp today to book hba1c and try take some kind of control back, but I can't get in until very end of Sept, so from now till then I have to try get in the right path to improve blood sugars and overall general health. Finger pricks hovering at between 14 and 17 at the moment.

I think I know what I have to do..but putting it into action and actually sticking it is where I REALLY struggle.. so I'm hoping coming back here keeps me somewhat accountable. Hope ur all doing well on your diabetic journey to better health. At this point i feel i just need my mouth sewing together..so any tips on staying on track are appreciated

I wouldn't presume to advise you, as I don't know why you go 'off track' but perhaps identifying those reasons might help us help you.

I can stick at low carb for a good while
And I do see better results in my bloods slowly. But then suddenly one meal I have always been fine with makes it shoot higher than normal and I get frustrated. I don't always but I sometimes then cave in to the sweeter things, or feel down and think a takeaway will make me feel better, it doesn't. . I'm terrible for sugar, which is how I've got myself in this position. I get bored with eating the same things day in day out, I'm a rubbish cook so I don't really experiment with baking breads or things like that so I just cut it all out. I realise these are all really bad excuses. I guess it's consistency and willpower I'm lacking too. X

I find for me, I have to have a routine which doesn't always work when illness strikes but it helps my mental health and keeps my bg ticking over. If the routine gets disrupted I end up slacking.

What is your exercise routine like ? you dont need intense gym classes or the like simple walking to start with should help even a mile

If you don't buy it, you can't eat it, so stock up with suitable food that doesn't need too much prep. You can grill a piece of meat and fill your plate with green vegetables - you can buy those ready prepared in most supermarkets. There is cheese, and eggs, that don't need much in the way of cooking, nuts and seeds which you can stir into Greek or Greek-style yoghurt. No need to eat anything you don't like or which is a faff to cook.
