Introduction. We have just returned to the UK after 11 wonderful years in Brittany, France, because at 70 years old the journey was getting expensive and tiring. We also have grandchildren now and wanted to spend more time with them. The French health system is fantastic (see a specialist the next day!) and whilst there I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, monitored and put on Glizaclide (French drug) nearest UK equivalent is gliclazide. We have 2 small dogs and moved from a 186 sq meter renovated farmhouse with an acre of land to a small but really cute late 18thC miner cottage - which costs twice as much to run! I'm having problems with the new drug and diet so looking here from advice/suggestions to help and hopefully to make new friends - a problem shared etc. All the best for now. Regards

Hi @Landylover and welcome to the forums.

Can I ask what sort of trouble you are having with the glizaclide and whether you have got set up with a UK GP yet. How long have you been T2 and what were you taking before the glizaclide?

Most of the UK forumites are asleep now but hopefully some will be along soon. (As a T1 I don't know a lot about gliclazide/glizaclide but my 92 year old T2 dad was on it for a while).

Once more welcome.

Welcome back. Am sure your children will be glad to have you closer, especially if they work, I was often on end of emergency Sunday calls for Monday childcare lol.

Can't comment on drugs as never taken any, I did diet control from diagnosis. But can recommend Dietdoctor.com for recipes and lots of informative videos and articles.
This site recommends Low carb now and seems to run a support programme for it. I've found low carbing the only thing that manages my overall health and recommend it to you.

Good luck and Happy Control :))
