Hi first post on here

I am just wondering if anyone has suffered any injuries from nocturnal hypo convulsions.

When I was pregnant I suffered really badly with nocturnal hypos that were bad enough to make me seizure and convulse.

Since this time I have suffered with chronic lower back pain, I presumed this was just due to pregnancy but 6 years on and I am still suffering.

Any past experience with this would we greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

My little girl had several which led to temporary problems like sore tongue from biting and sore neck but it resolved. I think your ligaments are more stretchy in pregnancy so you could have done more damage?? She now has a pump that alarms and switches itself off so no more severe hypos, just the odd 3.9 that we deal with

Well I am glad she is now not having them awful episodes. I am booked for my DAFNE in January to get my pump. I just feel it's something I have done that isn't going away anytime soon. There has been no other trauma on my back, it the amount of muscle power you have in one of them convulsions is quite amazing, thanks for sharing your experience

Hi there @lisa87
I just wanted to welcome you to the forum -- I have no actual knowledge of the issue you describe.
nobody has ever told me that I convulsed during a hypo -- I have had a few being totally unconscious so perhaps I have but with no lasting damage -- sorry .....!!

Welcome @lisa87 :)

Have you seen anyone to confirm the source of your back pain? After my first pregnancy, I had bad lower back pain even though I hadn't suffered hypos like you had. I did have an abdominal split though, and that was contributing along with the postural change of pregnancy.

If you haven't see anyone, I suggest you do as I wouldn't assume it was from the seizures.

Even if it was down to the seizures I would seek help now. Firstly with your GP, who may be able to refer you for physio. If not you could try a chiropractor or osteopath. I have used both and prefer the chiropractor, but either could help you. The sooner this is dealt with the better because there may be more knock on effects further down the line. It's possible that your back and hips are slightly misaligned due to the force of the convulsions. I tore two large muscles in my sides when pregnant and needed my lower back to be realigned due to the muscles healing at different rates and pulling me ever so slightly to one side. It wasn't outwardly noticeable but it caused a lot of intermittent pain.

Oh and welcome to the forum from me too :)
