Reading people's posts, ive noticed a few of you are gym-bunnies.....has anyone got any good exercises to strengthen my lower back? I ******** it last year, slipping on ice in work, its been ok since then, until last night, when messing with my 8year old, resulting in me lifting her funnily which in turn rhad me on ibuprofen and a hot water bottle this morning. Its gone off now, but is still a bit tender, and once i feel better I need to strengthen it so it doesnt go again.

Thanks in advance

bufferez,
Have you been to the Dr? i did after falling down the stairs last June, and it still restricts what i can do on a daily basis. I was sent to physio and it worked wonders (at the time) but i have aparrently squashed 2 vertebra at the base of my spine! Anyhow physio may work for you and its worth a try rather than popping pain killers. I had accupunture, which was an incredible experience, hard to describe, also sonic therepy and exercise. If you get referred, you may find your one of the lucky ones, and be cured.
Good luck and take care,
Suzi x

Thanks suzy, still tender today, but not needing painkillers, so just having an easy day or two, so no gym for me tomorrow (yay! ), might go for a gentle walk later though, otherwise the few pounds i have lost will be back on in no time.....I'm due to see my GP in about 2 weeks for my bp checkup, so ill ask him then to have a look, if its got better that is.

I have a prolapsed disc and the doctor and chiropractor say use cold a compress on it not warm. I find this works, but better than that get a product called BioFreeze.

It is the best stuff I have ever used. You can get it at Boots but you will find a search on t'internet will get you a better price. I find the gel is better than the spray. :D

I've spent my life avoiding gyms as I loathe exercise for the sake of it, although now I take more since being diagnosed. I did develop a bad case of sciatica a couple of years ago so I know how debilitating back pain can be. I don't have any advice, I'm afraid, but I offer my sympathies to those suffering, especially Suzi, who has been so supportive to me. :D
Acupuncture worked for me when my cluster headaches were at their worst, even though I didn't really think it would do much good. With my sciatica I was sent for physio and electro treatment and this did the trick. I realise, however, that sciatica is not the same as the kind of back problems other posters have described here.
