Hello

Some of the more seasoned veterans on here will remember I found out 2 years ago I was type 2 Diabetic and determined to stay off the meds I managed it well for over a year.
Due to unrelated complications, firstly my Appendicitis then knee surgery for a torn cartilage then a Vasectomy.
My exercise was virtually at nil and I conceded to increased sugars and hit the Metformin SR.
I was then diagnosed and treated for low testosterone and the treatments were being cancelled out as I learned that in some people, Metformin inhibits Testosterone, I stress this isn't the case for many people but I then decided enough was enough.
I'm now back on track, I stopped the Metformin, carefully planned my diet and am back on the cross trainer, the wee beer belly is almost gone and I've honestly never felt better.
In 8 weeks I'm being overhauled, they will test cholesterol, blood sugar and testosterone and I will report the results.
I'm taking a multivitamin just in case I miss a few bases and an omega 3 supplement. Green tea and water, lots of leafy Greens such as kale and a largely vegetarian diet if I'm honest, although I'm not actually a vegetarian , I simply felt by sharing this info, that if you're considering an alternative approach then a collective approach is mutually beneficial. I could go in but fear you'd lose interest:D I'm going to give Diabetes a hard kick in the balls and the early indicators - how I feel etc the outlook looks very promising indeed.

Welcome back, glad to see you're back to your old self............. onwards and upwards:). With best wishes

Update.

My latest HB1AC came back at 44 from a previous 49.
My cholesterol total was 4.4 but my triglycerides reside at 2.8.
I can't decipher my testosterone result until my Doctor returns on Monday.
Note this is a 6 month interim testing phase as I continue to be med free, so I wanted to see how I was doing.
Trigs seem to be the worry and I need to get those down, I don't want the Doctor to put me on statins as I've seen the reaction they had on my Dad, also type 2.
Any thoughts good or bad? Going well or could do better?
I m pleased that since stopping Metformin SR I've made progress in lowering the HB1AC but nevertheless that cholesterol is a worry, unless one of you tells me otherwise anyway.

Cheers

Chris

@MCMLXXIII I assume from what you say, above, that you have your testosterone result, but aren't sure how to interpret it. Just in case you can't wait until Monday, my experience is that, in the UK testosterone results are given in nano moles per litre (nmol/L). According to the International Society for Sexual Medicine, less than 8nmol/L definitely requires treatment. Eight to 12 is borderline and treatment should be given if there are symptoms. Above 12 is just fine and dandy. A healthy young man may have a figure of 25.
Anyone feeling that they or their partner might be a little low should have a look at
http://www.issm.info/news/review-reports/who-would-benefit-from-testosterone-therapy/
We found that our NHS GP was awkward, difficult and positively sneering over this subject, so got initial help privately. The NHS now pays up. It was such a worthwhile thing to sort out - it's not just about sex, it's about well being, happiness and all round health.

Well after some clarification with herr doctor this morning I discovered a few things.
Turns out my testosterone test was overlooked, but another test showed my "carrier" of the hormone was 11 with 13 being normal.
I didn't fast before any of the tests either, so that Cissy Green lay heavy and upped my trig levels. Doc said Trig readings do fluctuate if you fasted or not before so he wasn't concerned as my last one in October was 1.7.
So hb1ac of 6.2 in old money or 44 shows after a year of 3 operations I'm moving in the right direction towards normal levels across the spectrum and remaining Med free.
I should point out im not a vegetarian, but I am usually following a diet of plant rich foods with nothing processed. And cissy has been shown the door too, I make my own pies now.
Here's to the next 6 months where I plan to become immortal.
There can be only one.

I was going to like that then realised I have no idea what that means. And I am only guessing you are on the left?

Well now you have me confused.
I'm green btw. Chegan, vegivore or flexitarian.
Like away, I'm a nice guy.
In other news seems after this morning's visit to the Quacks my testosterone is increasing so I went to the cinema and watched big robots blow stuff up.:)
