I changed to Tresiba from Lantus earlier this year. Much better control and hba1c figures. I recommend changing if at all possible. According to my medic, Lantus is an inferior insulin compared to the new ones, but the NHS won't change en bloc, just case by case.
I wouldn't make blanket statements that any insulin is 'inferior' in spite of what any medic says. Remember we are all different ? Azure used to say that a lot, I think with good reason. I developed a problem with Lantus running out after 21 and a half hours. I only needed it once a day originally, but then again I am very sensitive to insulin. Our insulin requirements are all very different. Lantus may still be the perfect choice for some of us.
I would be curious to know what the OP regards as a perfect result at 3am. A few more tests during the night would provide more information, inconvenient as it is.
Hello
Many find Lantus does not last and generally runs out after 18 hours, that's what I found.
I moved onto the Tresiba insulin which is much long acting, think it has a longevity of up to 72 hours,it took a bit of trial and error before I got the dose I wanted, because it can take 3-5 days before you start noticing any dose changes, but for me it was worth it as I can just leave it to do it Base long time work.
Don't know about Levemir never used it and I cant off the top of my head remember who uses it.
Hope that helps.
I'm on Levemir, two doses 7 am and 10.30 pm which is my waking and bedtime times. My blood sugars are stable. I can even miss breakfast and run for 40 minutes in the morning without a rise. But I'm the wrong person to talk to as I'm new to this insulin malarky and it could be my honeymoon insulin causing this also. Or my insulin sensitivity factor. Whatever it is, I will still claim that Levemir is the bees'
Not sure I had heard about Tresiba and Levemir and asked about them both, then we chatted and decided to Tresiba a go which Im still on
