Following eye test last week, I've just received letter saying I have background retinopathy in right eye. I feel sick with worry. I had a baby last year and heard eye sight can worsen. My hba1c has been normal since diagnosis 2 years ago with latest 36. But I do have occasional highs. I've been more relaxed over testing but going to go back to testing lots like before. Can this be reversed? Thanks
As a T1, I've had on again/off again background retinopathy for years (now unfortunately on but still hasn't progressed to needing any treatment). So my answer would be yes. (Unfortunately I don't think I've ever had a hba1c as low as 36 so I think complete reversal is now unlikely for me).
Congratulations on your new baby (and your fantastic hba1c).
My control was never very good (at all) until recently so I've had background retinopathy for well well over a decade, but even after my god-awful control at times and now much better is it still only background retinopathy so I get the screening every year but they've never needed to do anything about it so far
I doubt mine will ever disappear but it is staying stable.
