Bacon Sandwich

In an effort to see how I react to bread (wholemeal) I had a bacon sandwich for breakfast - 2 hours later my BG was up to 10.5, but three hours after that - it had dropped back to 5.1

My question is this - is this a good / acceptable recovery time. (Not that I intend to keep repeating the exercise)..

My lesson learned is that I don't do bread - wholemeal or otherwise.... for the last month my numbers have averaged around the 6 to 7 mark......

Edit - I had no symptoms as the BG rose - in fact I wouldn't have known if I hadn't tested....

It's not good, whether you find it acceptable is entirely up to you
The general rule of thumb is to be no higher than 2mmol above your pre bacon sandwich level, at the 2hr mark. Although ideally you would want to be back to the starting level by 2 hours, just like someone who doesn't have T2 would be.
The easy way to do that would be to forget the bread, add more bacon, a couple of eggs and maybe a few mushrooms.

A homemade OGTT eh? It shows you are diabetic. But it also alludes (but does not prove) that you are producing reasonable insulin and have medium insulin resistance. It may be that without the protein and fat from the bacon the recovery would have been quicker.

Not great to be honest, if you miss bread there are a few places now sell low carb bread to satisfy your Ned for a bacon sandwich - it’s not cheap at an average of £4 a loaf but I but it and put it in my freezer and have it occasionally when I really fancy it - there is a couple I’ve used - “seriously low carb” and another “low carb food Co.” I prefer the second one as it’s more dense and the nearest to bread I’ve had - the slices are small but 2 slices with filling keep me going for a few hours

No - I can do without bread altogether. I wanted to know how I'd react, and now I know it's not good. I'll leave it alone.... it's really not worth the stress......

Don't forget, I did say that I won't be repeating the exercise. :)
