Bad And Misleading Advice

The below is a quote from another forum.

"This is a link to Jenny's (bloodsugars101) blog and deals with a Byetta competitor, Victoza.

Another dangerous but ineffective drug?"

This was supported by another of its frequent posters. I despair of people who seem to delight in denigrating medical advances. I rarely visit the forum now where this was posted as it seems the place is dominated by those who seem to revel in such rubbish.

I have been diabetic -type 2 - for almost fourteen years, and have recently had problems with my BG. I started Victoza on Thursday, and it seems to be working for me - touch wood - and without side effects. My concern is that some diabetics will take heed of this nonsense and fail to take advantage of some of the developments in diabetes treatments.

Robbie,

I see your point!

I would like to think that we all have the savvy to work these things out for ourselves. Admitedly, like anything in life, what works for one may not work for another, but I do despair sometimes when I read that people refuse to take meds prescribed on the bases of what someone has written on a diabetes discussion forum.

I shall reply here because I have had to sit on my hands reading a lot of advice on these boards!! I have diabetes (type 1) but am also a practice nurse running diabetes clinics and can often see both sides of the argument.

However I have to agree with you 2 completely. Often I am finding there is no clinical research or evidence to back up what a lot of people are advising others to do, it is all on individuals experience and hearsay.

So difficult for me to comment as I have a feeling I would be shot down! One thread I read today implied a heart specialist knew more about diabetes than a practice nurse (usually with extra qualifications in diabetes management, equivalent of DSNs) running diabetes clinics
