Bad broccoli?

A quick update. I weighed everything yesterday and calculated carbs. Total for day less than 14g.
Fbg at 5.30am 8.1.
Coffee with cream at 6.30am and 2 hrs later 9.7. I ate an egg fried in butter and will test again after two hours.

Many of us get a morning rise whether we eat or don't eat. It's hormones like cortisol and adrenaline waking up. Some get a rise from coffee. Some ( like myself) need to eat to lessen the rise. Some can't eat or get the rise. Mornings are definatley the most frustrating times for most of us. And to top it off there isn't always an answer. Activity in the morning raises me. I take insulin for me relaxing bf on my iPad but when I get up and get moving I need to take a small shot to stop it. Before I started injecting insulin a short slow to moderate walk would help.

Are your other meal time numbers gettting better? Looks like fasting is slowly gettting better. Fasting is the last to come down and stay down. We have a 'set point' and the body likes to stay there. It needs to be nudged down.

Do you like low carbing??? I love it!!!

I think things are going in the right direction Kristin251. Two hours after my fried egg I was down to 8.1 and when I tested at 2.30 before having lunch (200g shredded cabbage and 20g melted butter) it was down to 6.5.
I live with my sister who is vegetarian but eats fish and I didn't eat meat at home because of this. Going low carb has meant eating meat and she's been brilliant about it but I don't really feel comfortable with it. Eggs and fish may be the way to go.

6.5 before lunch, 7.1 two hours later. This is good isn't it?

Great news. It doesn't happen over night. Slow and steady wins the race. I could live on fish and eggs but I certainly enjoy my poultry and lamb/beef. Maybe you could eat those when your sister isn't around? Batch cook and freeze when she's not there?

Yup, that's a nice slow bump. We're not just looking at specific numbers., though they of course are important but we also need to look at the rise and fall. The idea is to keep both of those as steady as we can.

As I said, mornings can be difficult for many of us. I just eat avocado as it has the least effect but I still rise regardless. Just less than if I ate carbs or protein. It's actually worse if I don't eat. Afternoon things calm down. Most of us are insulin resistant in the morning and as the day goes on we're more sensitive. That's why I save the bulk of my low carb diet for dinner.

You seem to headed in the right direction. Pat yourself on the back. Keep up the good work and your efforts will pay off :)

Thanks Kristin251. I do like avocados. I am happy.

So how did it go @Swiggy ?
Well I got up this morning to a fbg of 8.1. Had a fried egg for breakfast, no coffee, put a tin of tuna into a lock and lock box with 100g mayonnaise and set off to Manchester for a training course.
The croissants and Danish pastries looked fab but I refused them and had black coffee. At lunchtime I discovered that I had left my lchf lunch in the car so I had 3/4 round of a cheese and ham sandwich and two slices of carrot with a spoonful of humus.
Tested when I got home and I am 7.5.
I don't really feel like eating this evening so I may just have a coffee with cream and an early night.

Maybe you have bad dawn phenomenon. Do you test before bed? Ever test during the night if you wake up? These could answer some things.

9.0 this morning. I have been testing before bed and it's usually between 7.5 and 8.5 and usually a bit higher in the morning. I am just going to carry on and hope I start to see the same results as other low carbers.
Are you seeing good results?

Vlc is the only way for me to go. 95% of the time my bs is between 80-100. When I was first DX' d they had me eating 20 c per meal and I would go anywhere from 50-150 in an hour. Went back to my 20or less a day and things stabilized. However, I am now on insulin. It's really not nearly as easy as it sounds. All my foods are weighed and measured to find my dose. I eat the same meals and same macros everyday at each meal as my sensitivity changes throughout the day. I eat different food but same macros.
I haven't eaten over 20c per day in years and when I did I had nasty meter results and weight gain. I'm perfectly happy with my small little meals. Lots of ways to make them look and taste different.
Mornings stink. I rise too so I e started taking a small shot about an hour after I eat to stop the rise. So far so good. When I was type 2 a ten to fifteen minute slow to moderate walk always helped. Nothing strenuous ornid go up.

Do you know how many carbs your eating? Are you moderating your protein? That turns to bs albeit much slower and can give us higher readings the next day.
