Maybe you're showing an improved first phase insulin response - I believe that's from stored insulin. So maybe you've built up a store over time due to still-functioning or reviving beta cells. Unless your beta cells are now in tip-top shape, though, that advantage is probably a temporary one as the problem would start again with more carbs than the body can store ready-to-go insulin for, which tends to diminish over time as it tries to play "catch-up" and falls farther and farther behind. I think. Still new at this. :?

I had to read up on that!

If I am reviving beta cells, I will save them for any crazy impulse binges. Luckily, they are much reduced on my new diet. I will stick to my low cabs, and thank you for the scientific answer. Much appreciated.

Hi Jeannemum,

I know exactly how you feel. My oldest son is autistic, and we have had to go through years of tantrums.

The reading after the choc, well don't understand that. Could have been the high stress you were in, or someone smiled down on you, after what you had been through. :)

We need someone smiling at us don`t we Helena. I have never had a hba1c test, so I am very excited to get that done in a few weeks.

I am very happy to say he seems back to his usual self today. There is a part of the school he is in especially for ASD kids, and the head of that was going to speak to him today. She must have worked her magic :D
