Baked beans! Who would have thought?

Here we go again! There is a thread about driving, that I read over the weekend! I know that because of hypos I 'm not allowed to drive!

Someone, hopefully will paste it for me!

Something to do with the law but you don' fall into that category! Wouldn't worry!

No, but I drive to work? Someone that I know said he has to have strips because he drives, and you're supposed to check your BG before you get in the car to drive anywhere but I don't know if that's right?

You only have to do this and inform DVLA about your diabetes if you are on medication that can cause hypo's.

I would copy and paste the link but I'm on an Apple iPad too......

Only one solution as far as I can tell Nosher

Stop testing

No way! That,s the fun part, eating something that before meds would have sent me into a place where I didn't want to go. And I felt awful! There's not that many pleasures in life, food is one I relish!

I agree, when I first started testing my wife was embarrassed by it but when family and friends started asking me to test them she started to change her mind, now she positively encourages me to test. We went to a new Greek restaurant in town yesterday because my wife wanted to see what Greek food does to my bloods (I had to pay of course!), results were good

Love Greek, hate the plate smashing! Love the zorba dancing!

There was a dish that we had on kefalonia which was fabulous. Like a pizza with no pastry but about six inces thick. Mmmmmm!

What did you have!

4 is the upper limit of a hypo, as recognised by the specialists and high foreheads, below is hypo hell!

Albanian Liver as a starter (absolutely delicious), the wife had houmous which came with some bread that I'd not had before, so I tucked in to that as well (in the name of research obviously!)
Main course I can't pronounce or spell, but it was minced lamb rolled into a sausage shape and wrapped in a flat bread, with a spicy tomato sauce and Greek yoghurt. Also had a pint of Efes and a black coffee, and a square of Turkish (Greek?) Delight that they brought with the bill.
Pre-prandial 5.7
1 hour after 6.3
2 hours after 7.1
3 hours after 9.0! (Probably the Turkish/Greek delight)
3.5 hours after 6.2

What I'm meaning is, I've been told I don't need to test my BG level at all, so I can't get strips. But I drive a car. Not for a living, but the fact that the DVLA is mentioning BG levels, when to drive & when not to drive, then the only way I would know that would be if I was testing? But yet I've been told I don't need to test?

Reading this it mentions for example not to drive if your BG is 4. Does that mean then that you are supposed to be testing your sugar levels?

Only if you are taking medication that is likely to cause a hypo (I.e. Insulin), as a diet controlled Type 2 the chances of you having a hypo are minimal. It is up to you if you test before driving but it isn't a requirement, in my opinion though you should be testing after eating etc so you know how food affects you and to make sure your bloods aren't too high

Ok, now I understand the question better

Most of us Type 2's are told we don't need to test, this is rubbish, we're told this because of the cost of the test strips. In order to maintain tight control on your blood glucose levels you MUST test, there is no other way to do it. Most of us self fund our meters and strips, and a lot of us use the SD Codefree which is available on Amazon, can't remember the cost of the starter kit (meter and 10 test strips), I think it's about £15 but the test strips are £7 for 50, the cheapest on the market at the moment

I used to love baked beans. I looked at the low sugar variety and although the sugar was considerably less, the total carbs weren't a lot less!

I love beans on toast too, but I haven't had them during the last six months.
When I go to stay with my friends in turkey, they make a dish called dry beans. Basically, dried beans, cooked with onions, tomatoes and herbs. These are probably better for bg in the long run. I may give them a try.

And I bet a dash of chilli would be nice with them!!
