Hi, it kind of depends what`s on offer really, if possible go for whole meat i.e. steak, pork, chicken etc rather than burgers or sausages as you won`t know what their ingredients are, most veg are fine (not sweetcorn!), be careful of bbq sauces as they are often full of sugar. Most importantly though enjoy yourself and don`t fret too much about the food, I think you probably have a pretty good idea about what to avoid anyway, oh and try not to overdo the beer too much! Have a good time :) Chris.

I went to one yesterday, and did quite well just eating lots of Greek Salad, and chicken drumsticks and a sausage without the bun, then spoiled it all by drinking over a bottle of wine. My BG this morning when I crawled out of bed was 10.6. Ugh.

I'm not being sarcastic but maybe don't blame the wine unless of course it was sweet or a sweeter white.
The fat in the chicken skin or in the sausage ( both high saturated fat) would raise me later. Greek salad dressing could have sugar or saturated fat in the feta cheese. Saturated fat does not do me well. A low carb meal high in saturated fat is worse for me than a few more carbs. It makes me insulin resistant for 3 days.

Try the bottle of wine without the saturated fat haha.

Just to show how different we all are .The feta cheese and chicken skin would have no effect on my BGS at all.and neither would a sausage if it was >5%carb even if the fat content was high

Feta cheese and chicken with skin takes my BG down

I had a BBQ on Saturday with 200g (double my daily allowance) of chicken breast ,sausages and beef burgers. Lots of accompanying salad, no alcohol and a bowl of berries. Ended up .3 higher at + 2 hours.

Yum, barbecue! That is all ;)

Not really.

I agree with the above recommendation to avoid sausages and burgers (unless the host makes a point that they are high-meat (I wouldn't go as far as to actually ask that question)) and keep to chunks of meat. However, even those can be spoiled by sugary marinades - at least to my tastebuds, as I lost the appetite for sweetness. Not sure if that would actually spike me, as I usually manage to scrape most of it off. Salads can also go wrong if the dressing is too sweet, but lots of people seem to serve salad veg with dressing on the side. I love chargrilled vegetables - mushrooms, peppers, aubergines, courgettes - tasty and LC!

So, @Viv0147 , how was it?

I really enjoyed my choice of food was 2 chicken legs 1 burger no bun + salad no drink I was driving so not to much damage

Perhaps the high saturated fat is more of a T1 thing and getting insulin at the beginning of the meal and the fat slowing things too much. I think I would get a liver dump somewhere in there. Who knows....

I'm on a LCHF diet, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of saturated fats - they don't raise my BG at all. However, In this case, as my brother-in-law was in charge of the barbie, there was very little fat (or protein, or in fact oxygen or hydrogen molecules) in the meat, it was mostly just carbon.

I made the Greek salad and I can assure you the dressing was pure Olive Oil and lemon juice and herbs, anything else would be disrespectful to the proud history of that country.
