I've been pratting about with my basal testing in the lead up to DAFNE in a fortnight. I take just 3 units levemir of an evening. All tests have shown that I rise at first (about 1.5 units in 1 - 2 hours)..... Then drop about 4 units..... Then rise about 6.

Eg Last night:
7.3
8.9
8.7
6.1
5.2
7.2
9.3
I tested hourly from 11.30pm to 5.30am.
I used to have "perfect" basal but now it's just not working. I've tried reducing the levemir but I still rose even more than if I took 3 units!

I don't expect a magic answer other than get a pump..... But it's still frustrating!

Hi hale, when did you eat before the first result?

From the 4.30 test onwards i would say DP what were you when you got up? or was that 5.30?... no magic I'm afraid!

My results from last week were almost complete opposite to yours Hale. Steady rise then a drop.
5.3
5.7
6.2
7.4
5.7

I've decided to leave it as is until DAFNE course. I think they will go through basal rate testing in more detail and easier to discuss results then.

I ate at 6pm.

I suspect DP could be partially to blame. Although the honeymoon period won't be helping! But rise, fall, rise again is just plain stupid.

I'm the same mo. I just getting all my info together before I go so I know what I'm working with!

I've been soooooo tired since diagnosis. It's a bit of a running joke that I have narcolepsy because I fall asleep as soon as I sit still. At my desk, in meetings, on the sofa...... I'm wondering if this crazy night time BG routine is maybe the reason!

Silly question...We're you testing properly? Wash hands each time, change lancet each time. I find that unless I wash my hands, my morning reading can have a fair amount of variability. Also don't forget that the meter will be around 15% accurate, less so if hands aren't washed etc.

Did you have pasta or a high fat meal? If I have pasta and don't split my QA I get very similar readings ref. the initial rise then fall, the 2nd rise might be due to the hormonal release associated with the dawn phenomenon, Good point Sam, just realised I never wash my hands first thing in the morning before testing but always do during the day. Note to self......

I did wash and change for that test, but i often don't over night because I'm too busy wanting to get back to sleep lol
