Sorry for the clueless question, but how much sugar per 100g is a lot?
I was about to heat a pre-prepared salad I have, but looked at the nutrition information and it says 23.9g sugar which seems like a lot (6.8g per 100g).

I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the food forum, I put it here as it wasn't about recipes or types of food etc, please move it if it's not in the right place!

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
Read the total carb value on the product and go by that.As all carbs convert to glucose in the body they all count.Simple sugars put you blood sugars up quickly but the more complex carbs also raise blood sugars only more slowly. So if the total carbs is 23.9 I would say that is a lot!!I take it that the sugar is 6.8 ?

Sorry I wasn't clear, it says:
Carb 27g (of which sugars 23.9g) per pack (350g)
Carb 7.7g (of which sugars 6.8g) per 100g

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
For BG control. it is the total amount of carb in what you eat, that matters, so if you have a 5g square of chocolate thats says 33g sugar per 100g. You are just going to have about 0.6g of sugar. NOT a lot, but if you have 50g of bread which has 75 of carbs per 100g. You wil eat 37.5g, which is a lot . A reasonable amount of carb is about 50 per day. So just weigh your portion and work out your total.

Oh OK 7.7 per 100 doesn't sound a lot but if you are eating the whole thing then you are consuming 27gm of carbs for that meal.Factor in anything else that you are also eating with that meal and it soon mounts up.The aim in diabetic diet is to reduce your carb intake until your blood sugar drops preferably below 7. Some people have to reduce their carbs quite severely others don't ,it's all trail and error as we are all different!!

You need to bear in mind that any .gov.uk website is quoting the official government advice on what constitutes a healthy diet, and that is a diet for a non-diabetic person. A diabetic, particularly a type-2, as has been proved time and time again by contributors to this forum, will never be able to control their blood sugar levels if they follow the standard government dietary advice.

It's just beetroot, butternut squash and feta with no added sugar so I was surprised the sugar was so high. It'd be my whole meal, I can't cope with cooking multiple things for one meal! 50g of carbs seems to ring a bell I think I've seen that mentioned elsewhere.

I'll assume it's safe to eat then!

Oh it does taste sweet doesn't it (just cooked it). Not sure if I've ever eaten beetroot before. At least I managed not to burn or cut myself cooking it.

Thanks for all the help!
