bath time

Hi , just wondered what everyones thoughts are about giving insulin before disconnecting, before bathing . How much and when if any !? :?:

If I am having a long bath (40 mins to 1 hour before reconnecting) I find I need to give about 50%-60% of my basal rate for that hour.

I always disconnect to bath or shower and always need to bolus at least 50% of my basal. The only time I don't do this is if I have had a recent low BG.

This is individual however as some people don't seem to need to do this so I guess you need to see what works for you :)

I find with showers - disconnected for 15 mins max, I don't need to make any adjustments. Haven't tried a long soak or going swimming yet though.

If you are having a 30 min bath then use half of that hours basal insulin up front and then reconnect when bath finished.

I'm on v small basals, so don't bother to do anything when showering as I'm only disconnected for 10 mins. For a bath I remain connected & just pop the pump on the edge of the bath while I soak.

I don't do anything when I have a bath, I disconnect just before getting in, then reconnect when I've finished never found it a problem, but my BG's does drop slightly during a bath, so I always need to take a BG before and after to keep an eye on things...

But it is a case you'll have to find what suits you best, some people are like me and BG's drop so it equals out, and others need to use a bolus... So do some testing and find out what works best for yourself..
