Impossible to say really as nobody would know what sort of BG levels you were running at prior to diagnosis. There is no set time frame for kidney damage. Sorry to read about your positive result though. How is it treated ?

Did the only detect micro albuminura or noticeable decreased kidney function? Only reason I ask and shoot me if I'm wrong I still have L plates on but that's the very fine test that shows up before protein starts leaking? I think there are steps that can be taken to halt progression, will read up on it later and try remember to post back to you xxx though logic would say you'd have to have had diabetes a few years before that happened but our body's don't always follow the textbooks

Yes just looked it up, it is treated with ace inhibitors and apparently is reversible to a certain extent it's one of the earliest warning signs, have you had your eyes checked recently? As it goes hand in hand with retinopathy, both are linked to small blood vessel damage. How long it takes to develop is hard to answer as it depends how quickly your diabetes was picked up, t2 develops slowly over several years so it's probably not unusual to have early damage symptoms at diagnosis. Best thing is that you know and you have the power to halt it in its tracks for many years to come

All my liver and kidney function tests show normal results with the exception of the ACR which shows an elevated result which is statistically significant for someone with diabetes.

However, the test has been higher in the past when I didn't have diabetes and I have been taking ACE inhibitors for over ten years for blood pressure.

So, what's going on is anyone's guess. I'll just eat less protein and see how it goes.

was done for stage control and was positive. My eyes are still OK, no retinopathy, checked a few weeks ago.
But next to constant conjunctivitis, very unpleasant.
I'm on insulin lantus, 25 units a day, my worst sugar reading was 300, my best 105.
Since my hba1c climbed up again from 5,6 to 6,9 I'm trying hard to control my eating in a way that a few hours
after meal my sugar level is down again to about 110. Eating lots of veggies and lean meat, no pasta at all and only one bun a day.
I know I have to avoid a hypo.
COPD ( since roughly 15 years progressing slowly) does require in my case daily being treated with prednisolone and
my blood pressure needs Losartan.
And of course my lung problems caused cardiovascular disease. heart chamber enlargement..

Good that your eyes are holding up, sorry to hear about the conjunctivitis, that can be really nasty, my poor daughter went through a phase of repeatedly getting it for no apparent reason when she was a toddler, some mornings she couldn't even open her eyes as the stickiness had glued the lashes together so hard, used to have to bathe them in cotton wool and boiled water for a while til they unstuck, not an easy job on a grumpy thrashing 2 year old LOL but they would get so red I was scared she'd have some sort of damage, and drops (when I could get them anywhere near her let alone her eyes!) Didn't seem to make any difference at all. But she has turned out quite fine despite all my worrying.
You're doing very well with your healthy eating and sugar control
Pasta is one of my favourites, in all forms used to eat it at nearly every meal eek, can just about tolerate a 35g portion of wholemeal, not sure how many carbs are in that, I dread to look!
