Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Diet only
So accordingly to Huw type 2 is caused by 'lifestyle'. I'm healthy, exercise and ate fairly well but got T2D - is Huw saying all type 2 ate cakes?

Hoping the latest research can help type 1, medical advances are helping us all.

It gets old, doesn't it?

If only we had a way of collecting the combined ignorance of these journalists and turning it into cake.
Then they could eat their own ridiculous words.
Cos we don't want it, do we?

I would have switched it over but the remote control was lost in the folds of my 12 stone frame again, and I was too busy eating a huge cake (no wait...it was two slices of zero carb smoked cheese). I do want to eat cakes, particularly since the steroids which caused my diabetes increase my appetite - but I don't..as I don't want to end up looking like Huw. Is his second name Jarse?

The nonsense spouted on TV is one of the reasons I rarely watch it now. :D

Emailed and pointed out I'm 9st. I guess I ate too many cakes.

For me it goes in ear and out the other - I have bigger battles to fight but the misconception aside it is fantastic news they are making such progress with T1 especially if it can help children avoid a lifetime of injections

It is interesting isnt it. T1s are getting support because they have to. T2s are being ignored because we just need to lose weight (and yes I know some dont). When is it ok to support 1 person with the disease and not another with the disease? Sometimes I feel like why am I not gaining the same knowledge that T1s are getting. Im left with nothing, no clue how my sugars are doing on a daily basis, (no meter given), no clue what foods to avoid (I never ate sugary foods) (no test strips) Eat well plate given - was that a joke?. Some how Im supposed to know how to get my diabetes under control. Most T2s are given the diet sheet and booklet and left to it. We have the same problems as T1s except they have to have insulin. Surely the same information should be given to both sets of people. We will suffer the same consequences that T1s have if we get the same complications through poor management. I just feel like Im being pushed to the side to degenerate without any clue of what Im supposed to do. At least I found this site and am now better informed and have bought my own testing equipment because its vital to see how your sugars are doing what ever type of diabetic you are.

I'm in my ideal weight range never have been overweight type 2 but when visiting a new HCP she said ooooh you don't look like a typical type 2
She probably was expecting a huge killer whale to come bouncing through the door

I wrote an official complaint over their use of a picture of a woman with a muffin top stuffing cake into her face to go along with a report on diabetes, they did change it within a couple of hours. At least with the BBC they do change somethings if there are complaints, whereas the rest of the press can't even apologise for their claims that Liverpool fans were desecrating the dead at Hillsborough.

I'm T2 and I never ate cake, I don't have a sweet tooth, so I shouldn't have it should I? Ha ha.

If it is down to life style and nothing will convince me that that is the case why don't they give us the proper tools to deal with that like meters test strips and realistic dietary advise.
