So my family is having a BBQ on Monday. Luckily I'm going to the supermarket with them to decide. What should I eat and what should I avoid? I'm doing low carb and I gather most food is ok but not certain sausages and no couscous or bread. Will I still have a lot of options? Are burgers ok without the bun?

The main thing is to go for the best quality sausage and burgers you can get for your budget. I love a BBQ which means meat, cheese and salad. I use iceburg lettuce leaves as a bun

Watch out for sweet marinade/sauces but think about alternatives like chilli/lemon or garlic mayo

Burgers sausages without the bun. Grilled chicken, ribs steak , just ask to leave BBQ sauce off yours. Still great with salt and pepper or spice rub. Bacon and cheese.

Garden salad, veggies tray with dip, guacamole and veggies. Cheesy dips with veggies.

I'd just go for meat. I tend to make my own burgers to ensure they are 100% meat and also go for the 97% meat sausages even if it is lips, bums and bits... far better than oats.

When I have a BBQ I do mushrooms filled with Stilton which I cook in the oven whilst doing the potato wedges, steak burgers, 97% sausages, chicken thighs and belly pork slices with salad and the usual rolls. For dessert I make a pavlova, cheesecake and 'grown-up' jelly made from sugar free jelly with some berries and 3/4 pt of water and 1/4 pt of wine, usually Rose. The jelly usually goes quite quickly. Hope you enjoy your BBQ and remember that it's not the end of the world if you do eat a burger in a bun.

We love a bbq, belly pork chicken, bratwurst and homemade burgers with lots of salad, as for marinades and rubs try making your own.

We also cook halloumi, and black pudding on the old bbq, whatever you choose have a lovely time. X
