Evening everyone, looking for some advice. My DSN told me not to go to bed with levels below 8, however every night I'm about 5.5 before bed anyone have any supper ideas or advice to bring these up to a safe level before bed? Thanks in type 1

Are you newly diagnosed? Or do you have problems with hypos overnight?

8 is a bit higher than the normal pre bed target (which I think is 6 according to DAFNE) but if you answer yes to either of the above then those are good reasons to have cautious targets.

Have you got any idea how many grams of carbs you need to bring you up 1 mmol/L? If you can work that out, then you can work out what you need to eat - for example, if you need 5g of carbs to bring you up 1 mmol, you are at 5 and you want to be at 8, you need to find something with 15g of carbs.

Hi thanks for your reply I was diagnosed a month or so ago, never had a hypo atall generally my levels are very well controlled. I have been having 30g before bed which is only bring me up 2mmol

I like to go to bed around 85. Then I take 1 unit of lantus and I wake up around 85. Bingo. No hypos. I never like to be at 8 but that's just me. If your basal is right then you should go to bed and wake up very close to the same numbers
