I've been perservering with Simvastatin for a couple of years now on and off but usually after a few days on it I start getting pains in my legs and muscles. As soon as I stop taking it the pains dissapear.

My latest blood test shows my cholesterol as 4.0 and when I spoke to my doctor today about the pains caused by Simvastatin he has put me on Atorvastatin 1 x 40mg.

Anybody had any problems or side effects with this statin?

I have taken atorvastatin for the last 2 years. When I first took it I suffered from pains in joints . I now only take it every other day and my cholesterol is fine.

Just headaches for a couple of weeks for me, nothing too bad though

I took Simvastatin for several years with no side effects, then I started to get muscle pains and cramps. These disappeared when I stopped taking it. Then I tried Atorvastatin which was better - no cramps, but I still got muscle aches. Now I'm on Pravastatin which doesn't seem too bad.

If you get muscle aches from the lipid soluble statins (Simvastatin, Atorvastatin and others), then the water soluble statins are supposedly better (Pravastatin, Rosuvastatin).

Simvastatin didn't suit me at all. After a six month break I gave in and went on Atorvastatin. Been on it over 12 months with no side effects

I had loads of issues with simvastatin, bad side effects with muscle and joint pains and continuously rising cholestrol levels and correspomding dose increases. Eventually changed to atorvastatin, end result cholestrol now back down to 4.1 and no side effects at all, so it gets a thumbs up from me.

I've been on Sim and Ator, not actually sure which one is best. I know that SIm is the cheapest, so I think Doctors use that first. Didn't do me much good as I'm currently under coronary treatment at the John radcliffe.

i am on simvastatin & have been for a few months & just recently started to keep getting cramps always in my left leg.
After what i have seen on here it seems as thou it could be my statins.
Will have to see dn about it

I've been on atorvastatin for 3 weeks now (cholesterol was 4.3, but needed to be lower due to non-diabetes-related cardio problems). No muscle pains thus far, but my GP listed to my concerns re reported side-effects and agreed that I would have a set of tests one month in to monitor possible liver or other damage. Watch this space! :D

been on simvastatin a few months now occasionally get muscle cramps only left leg wonder after reading on here if it could be statins
