I get hypos a lot and hypers. I’m in the process of trying to fix it but I’m starting university this September and I will have to do placements and when I’m a nurse I have to work obviously and is it important to tell them I have diabetes?
Most of my part time jobs, whenever I got a hypo or hyper, I would suffer until my break came. They don’t let you carry or take your insulin in some jobs or carry a snack with you. Will they allow me to treat myself when I’m having a hypo

You should never ignore a hypo until your break, it needs treating immediately, it could be dangerous if you do not, for both yourself and whoever you may happen to be dealing with at the time (if anyone). They really do have to allow you to treat a hypo when it happens , every company should as its dangerous. And in nursing they would not want someone having a hypo to be treating anyone, that could be disasterous.

In my opinion it is important to tell your workmates, cos if you hypo without noticing they may not know what to do - as an example this happened to me once, I'd just started a new job, hadn't got round to telling them and I hypo'd quite badly, they ended up ringing my mum to see if there was any underlying conditions - do you know how embarrassing it is for your work to call your mum when you're 30! - as well as that it worried the heck out of her.

Hi,

I used to do this when I was a kid in class not wanting to cause a "scene?" (Sort it when the bell goes.)
You are not doing yourself any favours delaying the treatment..

Regarding your D stuff & hypo treatments? I've known employers back off like I'm holding a "loaded gun" simply explaining "it's because of the type one.."
One said no mobiles aloud. (Fair enough, I'm not a phone fiddler anyway.) I pointed out that it was linked to my CGM set up flashing my arm. She said, "say no more, my daughter is also diabetic. ;)

Good luck at Uni..
