Berberine

After researching and reading some very interesting studies I decided to try Berberine and started on Sunday. Seems it takes a month to three months to see results. Although diet keeps me in the pre diabetic state it doesn’t get me any lower. My pancreas is not well….so I’ll give Berberine a shot.

I would not personally take it with a prescription unless approved by a doctor.
 
It’s been a week BUT I’ve had some other issues that would render any numbers useless. Spent
last night in emergency with diverticulis. This has caused, over the past three weeks, high blood sugars along with other things. I didn’t realize how sick I really was….feeling better now with some antibiotics and hopefully my body heals quickly.
I will report back on the one month date and see if there’s any difference.
 
I take berberine instead of metformin, since I can't tolerate one of the inactive ingredients in metformin and I can't afford to get it made for me without that ingredient.

What I found was that berberine didn't work for me by itself, but when I added black seed oil, it gave me blood sugar that was suddenly responsive to my efforts. I was taking that for a couple of weeks before my hbA1c of 55.2 came back, and I wasn't seeing much result. But that number scared me into trying again with walking and lowering my carb.

In the weeks before I started taking berberine, I had been trying walking and lowering my carbs ever lower. It all went for naught. Walking made my blood sugar rise. Lower carb, gave me highs as well. None of it made sense. But now, on the herbs, I started seeing the results I had expected.

I'd be cautious about adding berberine to a pharmaceutical without my doctor monitoring it, though. Interactions could be very unfortunate.

(Oh, and at first berberine nauseated me terribly. I found that a capsule of neem leaf taken at the same time helped a great deal. Neem isn't recommended for long term use, so I stopped after one bottle, and the nausea didn't come back.)

I decided to stop taking the Berberine while I recovered from the diverticulitis so I won’t have any updates. I have restarted and am on day three…..so on November 10 I’ll pop in with any results….

Well, after one week on a 1500 mg dose per day (500 before each meal) I had to stop once again. The intestinal discomfort was no fun! After one week my fasting glucose was 6.4….no change. All the studies I’ve researched have results showing after four weeks…I just can’t handle the pain. I may restart at a lower dose once I feel better…or not…

I had the same trouble when starting berberine. I had to quit twice! But I found that neem leaf helped a great deal with the intense intestinal discomfort (one 475gram capsule for each 500 gram capsule of berberine), and after a while - a couple of bottles - wasn't necessary anymore.

I tried Berberine for a couple of months. It gave me the chronic poops - even worse that standard release metformin. It was miserable. Won't be trying again :(
 
Please be aware, you probably are, that food supplements and herbal remedies like berberine have not undergone the same scientific scrutiny as medication such as metformin. More research is needed, IMO. Just saying.
 
I can't tolerate Metformin so take only berberine, 500 mg twice daily. My cholesterol levels are better and I digest my food better, I think. I haven't had any side effects from it at all and on Metformin I couldn't leave the house! I think taking them together might be a bit dangerous since they are supposed to do the same thing.

I have been trying very hard for years to control by diet alone.
just started berberine with cinnamon about a week ago...
I am beyond surprised at how low my numbers are so soon. In fact 1st day! Now about 1week of taking 500mg 1 time a day I am from a morning fast of 140's to an after noon reading of 98...I haven't seen as low as 98 in many many years!
I am on a lot of prescriptions so plan on talking to Dr...but this stuff is definitely working for me!! I hope 8 can continue to take it! What a life changer! Hope u r blessed with these amazing results!!
