Well done Keith! :)

Well done Kieth :D :D

Isn't it amazing how much of a lift you get!

I too had a really good day yesterday (I'm at the start of my learning curve)

Fasting reading 7.6 (better than normal for me), Muesli breakfast and gym so no two hour reading in morning.Wholemeal roll, 2 sl roast beef, weight watchers yogurt for lunch. 2hour reading 5.9. 3 low fat sausages, baked potato and beans for tea with some fruit after. 2 hour reading 6.0 (best ever after dinner).

This morning fasting 6.3 (very good for me) but then......
breakfast of unsweetened muesli with rasperies, visit to dentist (stress?), 2 hour reading 8.9 (mot so great)....

It is a case of monitoring and learning. It will take me some time.

Celkebrate the victories and learn from the set backs, that's my approach.

Well done kieth, dougie and kjt51,
great readings there! quite envious. strange about that reading in the 8s dougie. Can stress really do that? Keep up the good work.
Sparkles.

I'm still in the early stages of control and understanding so my readings still jump about a bit and I don't always understand why. In some cases, I've eaten too much in total for a meal, or I've had too many carbs or I may have had a food that takes me higher and I haven't narrowed it down to which of these has happened. I'm going through a gradual processs and building up a list of things I know to be fine, things I know to be a problem and unknowns.

As an example, I now know that I can eat one wholemeal roll or two slices of wholemeal bread with my lunch without problems. A big moment this week was finding I could have a reasonable portion of Manchego cheese on a wholemeal roll for lunch and still keep my two hour reading acceptable. My aim is to build up a list of "safe" breakfasts, lunches and dinners to work from.

In general though, my readings are reducing and 2 hour readings over target (8.5) are getting rarer. My meter gives me averages and the trend is definitely down (7 day better than 14 day which in turn is better than 30 day) although I'm not doing the exact same readings every day so the numbers aren't absolutely accurate.

How much of this is due to monitoring calorie and carb intake and testing my BG level, and how much is as a result of weight loss (10 kilos) is another open question in my mind. Probably everything contributes in one way or another.

Waiting for my next HbA1c and will be pretty dissapointed and surprised if it's not down a bit.

My understanding from this forum is that stress or infection can and does affect your BG levels but I haven't got any real personal experience of this yet.

you sound like you are really testing and monitoring well Dougie. I havent got that far in yet. I like the idea that your monitor can give you average readings over different periods of time. I wonder if mine will do that? my readings went up for a while after I had a half piece of cake in a cafe when out. then I made it worse eating too many of my flax muffins. so Im struggling to pull back and get back on track again now. the bgs are falling again now.
sparkles.

I'm not as consistent as many here. For one thing, I have to buy my own strips, having a Dr who is totally opposed to self testing in type 2 patients.

I had a full week of really detailed testing and diary and now I'm more or less having a week off but I still like to take any new food and do a test before eating, then two hors after to see how it effects me.
