Hi Guy's, Straight to the point, I need to lose weight I am not into gym's so I have to find an alternative.
So what I want to know is what time is the best time to both lose weight am/pm as does the fat /cal's burn better am or pm, also I have a couple of times walked to work and enjoyed it ( 30 mins ) and was thinking of walking home as well (uphill) 3 days pw.
So what do you think all advice kindly appreciated TY..

Aye, anytime's good for exercise. I try to do mine about an hour after breakfast (work permitting) as that's when I tend to get my biggest blood sugar rise and the exercise helps to keep it down. Walking to and from work sounds like a perfect solution to start with. Depending on your medication remember to test sugars before and after.

If you want added incentives to be out on your feet more, I'd suggest adding something, such as photography (if you have a camera / phone), geocaching (if you have a GPSr) or orienteering, which can be anything from wandering a park or forest round finding posts of a permanent course, through local club races, where people can walk or run, depending on what they like, with varying degrees of difficulty of navigation (ask at registration for advice about which course is best for you) through to multi day festivals, where a wide range of spedes and abilities are welcome, from virtual beginners to international.
While there is science about what time of day is best to exercise, it's more important to be active and enjoy yourself. So, walk both ways to and from work, or cycle the journey most days. Photography or geocaching or permanent orienteering courses can be down when it suits you, within some limits of daylight, park gates etc; orienteering races take place particularly on Saturday &, Sunday mornings, some winter events in dark on Sat eves, midweek evening races are typically in daylight in summer. So, plenty of choice if there's a time you want to exercise.

my advice is doing exercise to lose weight is no good, it may help in conjunction with a weight loss diet plan but relying on exercise to lose weight is very difficult, you would have to do regular rigorous exercise to make a dent, i know because i tried, also i watched a program recently on marathon runners, there were 12 i think people that went from normal life to training for a running a marathon, they trained hard and all did the marathon, one woman lost weight during the training but she started very heavy and was on a strict diet at the same time, out of the other 11 i think 3 stayed the same and the other 8 gained weight, probly from muscle but my point is these folks where running 5 days a week upto 20 miles in a single run and the 26 miles on the day and gained weight, i personally found that doing interval training did re start my weight loss once during a plateaux but it meant the personal trainer standing over me collapsed on the roller of the treadmill whilst i had an asthma attack.... i dont suffer from asthma, and even then i was on a strict diet, but diet in my opinion out trumps exercise for weight loss everytime by miles, that siad as part of a general weight loss healthy fitness regime exercise is priceless and awesome at reducing blood glucose, phew after all that i agree with brett....

anytime

Weight loss starts and finishes in the kitchen. Exercise is beneficial but if you think it's the answer to weight loss you'll be disappointed I'm afraid. That's not to say don't bother, it will play a part along with nutrition. It is also good for reducing BG levels ( if intensity not too high ). As for time, as previously mentioned, it's not really important. Whatever suits you. Good luck with your weight loss and keep us posted !

Another benefit of exercise is it keeps you busy as well, so either when you'd be snacking, or just before, as that'll suppress your appetite if you work hard enough.
However, if it then gets where you are exercising to improve muscle tone, fitness etc, you'll find you actually need to eat before, just to give you the energy.
You may also find you gain weight as you convert fat to muscle, so shape rather than weight is important.
All ways, exercise is always a plus, so go for it.

I completely agree with Andy, it is nigh on impossible to lose weight purely through exercise, the burn rate is just too low, the main benefit of exercise is to keep your metabolism working at a higher rate and also to help burn off the excess glucose and insulin in your system. You need to maintain a good calorie defecit as well as exercise. They usual recommendation is to eat 500 cals less per day than you actually need, your actual requirement will be unique to you based on your age, current weight, lifestyle and activity levels. There are lots of tools on the internet to accurately calculate your basic resting rate and you daily maintainence rates. It is vital to make sure you really understand what you calory intake is and for this reason it is vital to log, you may be suprised at how easily it all mounts up without you realising it. I always recommend my fitness pal which lets you log your food and calculates your calorie intake. It also logs your calory usage. There are other tools but thats the one that works best for me.

I do the yoga for fitness and my trainer said that for any exercise morning is best time. He suggest me to do yoga in the morning but half and hour before sunrise.

i went to a marathon seminar last night and they told us that you burn 100 calories a mile (roughly) so to make up for a full course meal in the local indian restaurant you would have to run a marathon plus another 10 miles lol I'm not sure how exactly true this is but it illustrates what we were talking about

I would crawl on hands and knees 2 full marathons for a proper curry, naan bread and a few Cobra beers !

Today I spent 40 minutes pushing weights up and down, then 40 minutes on the waterrower, according to my Heart rate monitor that burned 660cals. Is that enough to have half a peshwari naan?

I wouldn't say for any exercise morning is best. Depends what you're looking at.

STeady state like yoga, steady running, cycling, rowing etc work OK in the mornings, but physiologically we are not at our best foro doing hard interval training until later in the afternoon, all to do with the natural sleep/wake cycles from what I've read.

Plus intervals always seem to hurt more in the morning.

Seriously though, as per the other comments, weight loss is a combination of activity and diet to be just in negative energy balance overall, not necesarily meal by meal, otherwise none of us would ever have a curry
