The thing is though - if you want to control your diabetes, the average is not important, it is the highs. They are what do the damage - assuming that you are not in danger of going hypo.
My strategy was to reduce the amount of time I was high, starting by keeping under 8 two hours after meals.
Eating the same amount of carbs I saw my numbers fall, and then stabilise even though I added a bit more.
By aiming to stay under 7mmol/l all the time my Hba1c was 41 at my 6 month test.
