I'm not missing any point. Like I said earlier, the "fatal quote" came from https://www.webmd.com/webmd-editorial-contributors and it was put there to highlight the seriousness of this topic. You know yourself maltodextrin spikes blood sugars and that it causes inflammation and if you consume enough of it, that it will cause more harm than good. You know that, because I've been reading your past maltodextrin posts on several other threads over the years. I've already mentioned why I chose that quote. Do you need another reminder? What I choose to do is my choice, I don't have to give the reasons and explain every link or screen shot I make. If I didn't add links I would normally be asked have I got a link for that. You are missing the point. The question being asked of you is why you chose to use that quote - using the dramatic claim of fatal if you personally have no knowledge of, cannot support and perhaps might not even agree with it?
5 days before I saw the maltodextrin ingredient on the bottle. There was no maltodextrin on the list of ingredients when I made the order. This is not the first time either, Other brands have done the same in the past. I'm now searching for another source/brand of HCL + Pepsin without that added ingredient "again" Do you know of any other brands? I've suffered with Hypochlorhydria for a number of years now. They're capsules.no tablets.Hi,
How long were you using this maltodextrin (ordering it in.)before the “penny dropped?” (On the BG raising.)
Your screenshot in the OP suggest tablets used as a digestive aid..?
Betaine Hydrocholide + Pepsin stopped the gastroparesis that I had in 2019/2020 in it's tracks about 30 minutes after taking it again, but there was no mention of maltodextrin in the ingredients when ordering them, or on the bottles. then suddenly over the years different brands were mentioning and adding it in their ingredients.@Billy Barroo , what are your BG experiences with maltodextrin.?
I’ve been trawling round the net on your behalf with tabs open regarding your supplement pills (highlighted in your OP.) & trying to work out the nutritional value on them?
Am I right in thinking these tabs also contain Beetain? https://examine.com/supplements/betaine/
I am all too familiar with “sugar beet.” Being raised with horses we had to pull a horse off this feed supplement due to “Laminitis.”
(Along with sweet grass?)
Now recognised by some vets as a form of equine T2?
Regarding what I found on maltodextrin. I calculated theoretically a teaspoon of the stuff could drive my BGs up around the 3 to 4mmol mark..
Throw us all a bone here?
Yes there's a lot of evidence out there that states it can be used for hypos.I've got to admit I am sceptical about the "can be fatal" on sudden bg rises. Presumably that's via a DKA? I'd believe it on something that lowered bgs suddenly but am having trouble believing in raised bg as an acute event that will kill you. Still, I suppose, in a T1, in the absence of enough insulin??? Maybe a T2 with a bg already in the 30s could be pushed over the edge???
Not saying it isn't damaging, though.
On the plus side, does this mean it can be used as an alternative to glucose tablets when I'm hypo?
OK.. Thanks. Looks like we cross posted.. see my previous post.5 days before I saw the maltodextrin ingredient on the bottle. Yes I do know. Again not the point. I’m not debating that maltodextrin is a “detrimental” thing for diabetes. I agree there. Please don’t seek to belittle me with your sarcastic reminder comment, it doesn’t make for informative discussion.I'm not missing any point. I can empathise with your disappointment if the ingredients on this supplement have changed..Betaine Hydrocholide + Pepsin stopped the gastroparesis that I had in 2019/2020 in it's tracks about 30 minutes after taking it again, but there was no mention of maltodextrin in the ingredients when ordering them, or on the bottles. then suddenly over the years different brands were mentioning and adding it in their ingredients.

I've suffered with low stomach acid for many years. Hypochloridia I can not digest protein.OK.. Thanks. Looks like we cross posted.. see my previous post.
I’m seriously attempting to help support you in rationalising your diabetes here..
I’ve never tried these supplement capsules. But I have been doing some “homework” on how they could affect my BG. (3 maybe 4mmol with a teaspoon’s worth?)
Hardly a killer. (For me.) But, detrimental possibly to the carb conscious managing by diet.. I also don’t like the thought of maltodextrin in food.
I’ve always been attracted to real foods with a low carb vent. Even as an 8 year old at my birthday party pre diagnosis & feeling like the proverbial “shed.” I opted for protein over the “cake.”
I remember my mum exclaiming to a nurse on admittance, “all he had eaten was a cocktail sausage & the chicken.”
Some things stick in your mind as you are basically going into DKA.
They've reduced my blood sugars and I've gained some weight over the past 2 years. From 8 stone to 10 and a half stone. Since cutting down on the capsules my blood sugars have slightly risen.I can empathise with your disappointment if the ingredients on this supplement have changed..
However, how have these capsules affected your BGs as a diet managed T1 in remission..? (Regarding these changes.)
Hold the phone. So cutting back on the capsules (thus lowering the dose & contents.) your BGs have risen? By how much??They've reduced my blood sugars and I've gained some weight over the past 2 years. From 8 stone to 10 and a half stone. I'm fed up with having to keep on repeating myself. High blood sugars and DKA don't go well together. According to my diabetic team, that told my wife that if she had waited another 24 hours I would have been dead. This is why I highlighted the "fatal" word. Don't ask again.Yes I do know. The point I am making is you chose to quote the paragraph including the word fatal (without it initially being clear it was even a quote), then to post the screen shot it came from, without anything within it to support that claim. Without a link (as opposed to screen shot) it is tricky to investigate if there is any supporting evidence on the screenshotted page. There is nothing in any links you have posted that explain or reference “fatal”. The only explanation I can find for why choose that link is “to highlight the seriousness” which does nothing to explain how death can occur as a result of its use, so an apparently baseless claim thus far. I try and choose links that evidence their points. I don’t have a problem explaining why I post information. Not sure why you do.
They rose before I noticed the added Maltodextrin ingredient on the bottle, I've cut my Betaine Hydrochloride + Pepsin down from 8 to 2 capsules per day, I'm now having digestive problems not being able to digest my food.Hold the phone. So cutting back on the capsules (thus lowering the dose & contents.) your BGs have risen? By how much??
Again, throw us a bone? You state that that maltodextrin. In these capsules raises BG. I don’t doubt..I'm fed up with having to keep on repeating myself. High blood sugars and DKA don't go well together. According to my diabetic team, that told my wife that if she had waited another 24 hours I would have been dead. Just seen this & feel for you. It is uncertain to what extent your BGs have risen. You were diagnose T1. Insulin is not a failure, it’s just a tool…They rose before I noticed the added Maltodextrin ingredient on the bottle, I've cut my Betaine Hydrochloride + Pepsin down from 8 to 2 capsules per day, I'm now having digestive problems not being able to digest my food.
If maltodextrin raises BG it can be used for hypos. All carbs can, although some work faster than others.Could you help us out with the evidence out t here for using Maltodextrin for hypos? My concerns is for anyone deciding Maltodextrin would be their go-to, rather than essentially refined sugar.I think that is really important.
So perhaps having a more varied diet would help? You don't have to have a zero carb, high fat diet if it doesn't suit your body. As Jaylee says, using insulin isn't a failure, it's a tool to be used. You've done really well to manage this long without it, but maybe now is the time to change tack, for the sake of your health?Having low stomach acid (hypochlorydia) when on a high saturated animal fat, animal protein, zero carb carnivore diet and not supplementing with sufficient amounts of HCL + Pepsin because of the added Maltodedextrin that spikes insulin isn't helping........and then with me being in the elderly bracket.
