Type of diabetes
Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
My husband is type 2 I do all the shopping and cooking so the nutrition bit is my responsibility....trying to reduce carbs eventually go low carb....

Yesterday's food
4xcrackers (recipe from forum with ground almonds poppy seeds and raisins) I did wonder whether to include the raisins but as a first attempt followed recipe -he used to have 6 oatcakes but at 7carbs each they had to go...
2 hard boiled eggs

Lunch
4 quorn sausages
Salad -rocket tomato pepper 25g cous cous grated carrot

Snack
Small handful of walnuts
Small apple and pear

Tea
Chick pea casserole
(Tomatoes onion garlic)
Sprouts and carrots (don't ask my mum lives with us and does '2veg' with everything lol!)
3tiny new potatoes

WW sugar free jelly with 2tbsp frozen cherries in it

He did sneak one Finn crisp cracker with peanut butter ...!

Yesterday morning BG 9.3

Today 10.5

Can anyone suggest why.... Is it the raisins? Only 2tsp in whole recipe -made 10. Seems a bit extreme but advice appreciated!

Please bear in mind he is a carb addict loves bread pasta - etc so am trying to cut down whilst still having tasty meals.
We are vegetarian no fish people!

Thank you
Tracey

Have we eliminated skullduggery. Is your other half getting a sneaky snack from somewhere. If you are the nutrition provider is he challenging you ?

Diet looks very good ! Is this a one off or are his readings always that high ? If it's a one-off I wouldn't worry too much, some days diabetes just doesn't make sense. Try to repeat another day with same food.

What tablets is he on?
How ling has he been on such a low carb diet?

Hi Tracey (danielt),
James and I are veggie + fish, except when James is out, when he almost always has a steak, which he later regrets. When we first started on all of this diabetes thing we tested before and after every meal and I kept a detailed spread sheet. I might have looked like a woman obsessed, but it was very useful and enabled me to pick up patterns and spot problem areas.

Looking through what you have been serving, purely from our experience, I wouldn't use raisins at all and we found that almost any fruit created raised levels. The rule about fruit became, Choose between a couple of oat biscuits with the meal or an orange after it. I wonder what is actually in your quorn sausages, have you checked the label? As far as crackers are concerned, we did have a problem with Finn Crisp, but find Nairns oat biscuits (get them from Tesco) in moderation were OK. We also find pumpernickel, half a slice at a time, also from Tesco, very useful. A very small number of new, waxy potatoes are fine, as are chick peas, which, along with butternut squash and celeriac were the saving of us.

Having said all that, this was what worked and didn't work for James. The important thing is to test before and after every meal. You won't have to do this for long, just until you find out what works for you - and I can strongly recommend some sort of food / blood sugar diary.
Sally.

Quorn sausages are about 11g of carbs per 100g, chicken pieces are about1g per 100g though.
I was just wondering if it was a fairly new diet, with a possible big decrease in bs recently, it's possible it's still the liver dumping glucose in the morning, as your body has been used to high levels. If it is, it'll decrease in time.

Lol! squire -the peanut butter Finn crisp was the sneaky snack!, no honestly he is sticking to what he is given!
Sally and James just made more crackers with no raisins... Quorn sausage fairly low in carbs...and so glad I am not the only obsessed spouse on here - I feel like Di-abetic-zilla sometimes!!!
Douglas99 trying to reduce only a few weeks now last week not so good as work was so busy on weekend as well as in the week. Prior to this did BG in morning and they were 9.3 12.8 9.7 9.8 10.8

The 12.8 day w as a fairly high carb so I expected that one.

Will just keep plodding and hoping for. Reduction!,
Thank you all forum is a godsend! (If we are still allowed to say that!)

Ha jut found out how to do the signature...!

They're all in the same ball park, so I wouldn't worry. Even the time he goes to bed and wakes up, then gets up can make a difference in that sort of range.

Give it a few weeks, and it'll come down more.

You may need to cut out the couscous. May I suggest a higher fat intake? That might do the trick. Good quality fats like olive oil, butter, lard and coconut oil, all of them preferably organic. If you cut out carbs you need to substitute them with fat.

What about eggs for breakfast?
