BG Levels before sleep

Hello there, type 2 and just started insulin.

Levels are coming down good and I am on Humalin 1 twice a day (morning and before bed). I'm pooped as was up early and it's now 5 to 11 in my book, so am thinking about sleep. I ate dinner around 5.30 (a reasonable dinner, Roast Pork, one Yorkie, Roast Celariac and green veg). Have just tested BG levels and taken insulin for the night - BG levels are 5.7. Is this too low to go to sleep on? Stll a bit new on this in regard to insulin. thanks loads

Grr, it really annoys me that people are given insulin without clear advice on what to do in this situation. And you've probably gone to bed now so any advice I give will be a bit late.

Bed time levels are very individual and depend so much on the person and their insulin regime. Did your level go down much last night between bedtime and morning? If it did then I'd be inclined to have a small snack, as it's better to go too high than too low, but I am not T2 so not sure how applicable my insulin knowledge is.

This all depends on you and your body…. The big risk is the peak period of the insulin you are using.. if you are past the peak then you may be ok, but most diabetic nurses recommend I higher level before bed… my nurse told me 8mmol

A year or so after diagnosis the libre sensor became available so I got some just to see what affect the insulin was having on me and I learnt what I could and couldn’t do

If in doubt you should have a small snack…. And keep some glucotabs or similar handy
