Bg test differences during the day

I get bg results in the 6's when I test first thing pre food but results later in the day pre food are 4's or 5's. Why is this?

as jack says, the dawn phenomenon...........

in the morning and into late morning your body has still got a cocktail of hormones swimming about which for the most part are there to increase you blood sugar, a combination of increasing insulin resistance and a release of glucose from the liver.....

this helps the body get moving after a long period of fasting.......

Thanks for the advice. I had never heard of the dawn phenomenon so will google this now. So if my levels are around 6 early morning is that a normal level?

with a functioning pancreas, you would expect lower, maybe in the 4s and 5s, diabetics need help though.........
