Hi guys, Type 2, insulin dependant.
Fairly new to insulin, sensor and finger prick reading is 25, should I give myself more insulin to help bring it down? Thank you

Hi @NicolaJayne , welcome to the forum.

First, we can't give dosing advice.
Is your current insulin still Humulin I only?
This is an intermediately long acting NPH insulin, designed to keep your overall levels steady. It isn't really used for corrections to bring your blood glucose down like you would with a quick acting (mealtime) insulin, it doesn't work that quick.

25 mmol/l is quite high, and possibly dangerously high.
You're using a sensor. Are you seeing a quick peak on your graph after eating or have you been this high steadily for hours?
Do you happen to have a way to test for ketones, especially if your high is a prolonged one?

If in doubt, or if you don't feel right, or if you don't come down in a couple of hours, please call 111 for advice.
Should you develop nausea, tummy ache, need to puke, or have funny breathing, make sure to be seen tonight, not tomorrow, and be tested for ketones.

In any case, contact your HCP tomorrow, something isn't going right if your seeing numbers this high.

Good luck, I hope your numbers will drop soon!
And please let us know how you are tomorrow.

Hi, thanks for your reply, my insulin needs changed a few weeks ago, now I take 35 units of Lantus at night, 5 units of Novoraid at breakfast and dinner and 3 units at lunchtime. I had cake today at a Macmillan Coffee event today so took extra insulin as I knew BG would go high.
But that was several hours ago. Had my 5 units at dinner time 5.30pm that's when BG went high. If it doesn't drop o will call 111. Thanks for your help

Thank you for the extra information.
With your current insulins, it is possible to correct for highs, novorapid is used in this way if necessary, so this is something you'll want to discuss with your HCP.

Ideally, you'll learn to adjust the amount of novorapid to the amount of carbs in your meals.
Breakfast or dinner could be 10 grams of carbs or 100 grams of carbs, taking the same amount of insulin no matter what you eat isn't likely to work very well. Your sensor can give you and your diabetes nurse very useful information on the amount of insulin you need depending on what you eat.

For now, I hope your blood glucose is coming down and you'll be well!
