Up until a week or so ago I was delighted to be regularly getting pretty stable pre and post-prandial BG readings of between 4.5 and 5. I've been following the LCHF diet and my food hasn't changed, but for the past week my BGs are fluctuating more. Tonight for instance I was 4.2 before dinner and 5.7 two hours afterwards.
Is that considered a big jump?
I was reading something on the forum yesterday where a member mentioned a study suggesting that LCHF in some instances could cease to be as helpful in reducing BG levels after 8 weeks or so. That has interested and alarmed me in equal measures, as I have been following this diet for just over 8 weeks...
Should I be concerned?

Have you got a link to that thread? I must have missed it.

As for your question, those numbers are still well inside the normal range, so absolutely nothing to worry about at all.

Diabetic guidelines want you to be less than 8.5 at 2 hours I believe. That seems too high to me, so I aim lower, but I would be ecstatic to have levels at 6 at 2 hrs after a meal. Mine are usually around 7.

:)

Ahh, thanks @Brunneria - you have put my mind at rest.
No unfortunately I don't have a link. I was trying to find it again myself earlier, but came up with a blank. As I recall it was posted yesterday and I think the poster was one of the gentlemen who post regularly on the forums.
I'll keep trying and tag you if I find it again.

As a matter of interest, did you start a new tub of strips around that time, or any other changes, like flare ups or changes to medications for other conditions?

Aha!! New strips - and I forgot to test the batch. Good point - thanks very much. :)

I'm actually quite confused about what level I should be going for - having seen the recommended level on this site of under 8.5 for type 2 diabetics and 7.8 for normals (post-prandial), I was quite pleased to have been getting consistently lower than both (in the 7 to 7.7 range), but seen quite a few people on here aiming for under 6 or less as a post-prandial target. Does anyone know what the evidence is for aiming for a much lower figure than non-diabetics routinely reach?

@ChrisSamsDad I doubt there is any evidence, but I can't think of a reason why aiming for a lower number than the maximum "recommended" one would be a bad thing.

I guess I figure that the less my bs alter the better it is for me not to have big swings and keep a pretty much stable number throughout the day. I have a selection of meals that put by bs up by .5 to 1 mmol and have before meal averages of 5.6 and afters of 5.7. Yes I could go higher by increasing carb content but feel good at this level and am enjoying the food.
