Since I was diagnosed two years ago (type 2) I have controlled my diet very well, achieving good levels (HbA1c of 5.2) and only having limited treats at Christmas and birthdays. But now I've just had a binge where I have just eaten 11 shortbread biscuits. I was feeling a bit down as there is a family gathering going on that I didn't feel in a sociable enough mood to go to, my husband went and I am on my own in the house. I just couldn't stop. Well, I finally did stop after cleaning my teeth and logging in here after hiding the empty biscuit packets. What I would like to know is how not to do it again. I am sure so many of you are tempted - what do you do to stop yourselves going mad and eating everything in sight. I need to be able to stop before I start so there isn't a next time. Any tips would be most appreciated. :) BTW there are always biscuits in the house as my non-diabetic husband eats them.

OMG !

Next time, Daisy log in here before you reach for the biscuits ! If I feel like that usually Ken talks me out of it and the feeling does pass after a while.

It's horrible when you feel like that. Today I went and did some minor gardening to lift the mood, that works for me. Watched the cat investigate the garden, his first time outside.

Thanks Sue - perhaps I'll ask Ken to talk me out of it too 8) Yes, the cats usually lift my mood too but they are busy sleeping :) Have you got a new cat then? To punish myself for my binge I am going to make myself test after 2 hours to see the damage I have done

Me.....talk Sue out of anything....... You must be joking.....

Shortbread......I love it too. Mind you I am one those 'oddballs' who has loads of willpower, I still can sneak a few extra carbs sometimes though. Put it behind you and tomorrow is another day.

Bet they were nice though ? :D

Oh yes they were lovely :D That's the trouble

Yes newish cat Daisy, he's nearly a year old now and only started letting him out because the weather is better and I can leave the door open for him. His pic is in that thread, ' Dogs and the odd cat' but that was when he was a kitten. He is a 10 pound cat now and very curious !

Is that Guinness then? Remember the beautiful picture :)

7.8 after 1 hour - not too bad yet.

The trick to anything like this is to remove yourself from the temptation or to remove the temptation. It really is the only way to deal with the urges. If it really is going to be a problem in the future then it would be a good idea to put coping strategies in place now. So have somewhere nice to go, a really yummy low carb treat in the cupboard, something special to organise that will take your attention and time. You need to find something that will work for you and you need to sort it out now so it's in place for the next 'snack-attack'.

Thanks Jaykay for the advice. I can't remove the temptation as they were my husband's biscuits so they will always be in the house. I shall try and have a piece of cheese instead. Always got some in the fridge. And, as Sue suggests, log in here. :)

LOL Daisy,

reading your post has made me feel so much better, as this afternoon i had 2 rich tea biscuits with my coffee and was feeling really guilty, we dont usually have biscuits in the house but my eldest son fancied a treat and got them on the way home from work, toooo much temptation for me, he has now hidden them,

Daisy tomorrow is another day, start afresh, will be interesting to see what your bg levels are.

so glad that you enjoyed them though :D

Sue

I did something similar on the weekend. Had rather a large amount of (non-sweetened) popcorn -felt terrible for hours after (thanks to high blood sugars).

I've introduced a ban for me on having popcorn now :D

Good for you Daisy for making yourself test after :)

Good advice jaykay -I find that out of sight = out of mind works well for me.

If only we have a weekend off from diabetes every once in a while :D

This should cheer you up Diasy, made me giggle anyway !

your not the only one :) had a bad few weeks at work and today i succumbed to not only a few cigarettes but also a lindor truffle egg.......and a raisen and biscuit yorkie.

Bad new is i spiked at 6.9 so will have to avoid temptation when part of me says well it didn't spike my levels :)

Kinda made up for it with a greek salad for lunch but ho hum i hab been naughty

Oh gorgeous. Daisy's best friend gets up on the door too. Daisy hasn't managed it though. A long way to jump.

Levels went up to 8.6 and have started dropping now. Got to have supper now as I don't want to admit to my husband what I did while he was out

Zhaith - I suppose that's some consolation to know that I'm not the only one  Kept off the fags though. Easy - none in the house. Lindor truffle egg sounds nice. Must be careful never to try one 8)

Alaska - no danger for me with popcorn - haven't had it for years. I found it broke too many teeth :(

Yeah he'll talk you out of it alright and eat the biscuits himself!

Don't worry about it daisy, what's done is done and just move forward and forget about today! :)

Can't quite imagine Ken doing that somehow - he's stronger willed than I am I think. Can't think what came over me - I don't usually do that sort of thing. Worse than my levels will be the scales tomorrow morning
Yes - tomorrow is another day as Sue (o2) said :) Levels on the way down now.
