biosulin - dosage?

I am looking for the dosage of biosulin and have not found any results when searching here. I used to use protophane, but my medical aid forced me on to this new basal insulin. The pamphlet does not give any help, and my doctor seems nonplussed as well. Any help appreciated. I am from South Africa if my post seems strange.

According to this site protaphane is a Novo version of NPH
http://diabetesindogs.wikia.com/wiki/Protaphane (sorry it's a dogs site but I wanted to check that it was NPH and it was the clearest info I found!)

Here is a sheet on changing NPH to Levimir and Lantus. ( I assume that it starts from the premise that the NPH is in dose strengths100 IU/ml and not 40 IU/ml . If yours is in 40IU/ml then you'll have to get your doc to calculate)

as it's a Novo product you could also contact them and ask the procedure for about changing to Levemir which they also make,

Thank you for the reply, but I do not see biosulin L which I think is new on the market, if I take my pharmacists word. My doctor told me to use the same dosage that I was using for protophane, but I am going through highs and I do not know why.

I am going to the pharmacist tomorrow, who hopefully will contact a sales representative of the product, to help me out.

Sorry, I made a wrong assumption.
Googling shows that mentions of that particular insulin seem to come mostly from your continent. I don't think its available here.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a similar chart .
I did find a profile for it in this document
http://www.endo.co.za/documents/paediat ... ut-web.pdf
(p13)
It is supposed to last for 20-22hrs so is more like lantus and levemir than intermediate insulins but it has a peak like other NPH insulins. (at 6-8 hours)

As you say contacting the sales rep is a good idea and if your levels are too high you'll probably have to adjust the dose upwards.
Good luck.

Thanks Phoenix. I posted a longish reply before this one. It seems to have disappeared into the ether. Anyway, I am under close observation of a brilliant doctor now, so I will get myself under control.

Ahh, here is my longish post - clicked save instead of submit.

Thank you Phoenix. A fantastic document.

Good news is that my doctor took me under his wing and is determined to get me under control. My hba1c reading was 8.1, other diagnostics are okay, a bit over normal. He also prescribed the dosage and asked me to email him weekly reports of my morning readings and one at 2am. Told me to inject as I am about to eat (not after as I was doing), to change needle every 4 days (not for the lifetime of the pen as I was doing) as this minimizes scar tissue (and consequent slow insulin absorption). I am too take 28 units in the evening, 10 in the morning and observe the results from there.

He also waived any charges until I under control. I am fortunate.

I am determined to make it.
