Hi all, looking for some advice please.

My daughter will be turning 10 next month. She was diagnosed T1 a couple of weeks ago, it's been a bumpy ride with a few meltdowns along the way but we're getting there. I'm getting to grips with the planning ahead for everything which has lead me to my dilemma - Are there any good birthday cake recipes that won't send her blood sugar through the roof but also won't lead her to a meltdown over the worst birthday cake ever!

I've already had some valuable advice/reassurance from people on here in the last couple of weeks so I hope there's someone who can help me out now.

Thank you in advance x

Not too sure on recipes but just remember a treat is good every once in a while!
I have a real sweet tooth so do find myself eating more than I probably should... You should just need to make sure you inject a little bit more insulin to cover it whilst checking sugars regularly just to see how it's reacting.

Through trial and error and a lot of cake I've managed to work out how much I need to inject keep me steady now haha. Cake may not be the best for diabetics but it does not mean you have to remove it completely.

@Ellie's mum I make a normal Victoria sponge cake but reduce the sugar by just under a third (experiment beforehand). I then fill it with pure fruit spread (from a health shop) and some whipped cream. You can also decorate it with cream and fresh strawberries, etc, or to make it more 'normal', some crushed Flake chocolate or similar.

Add up the carbs in the recipe and work out in advance what proportion of the cake she'll have so you know the carbs in her portion.

I eat cake occasionally, both at home and out. Getting the carb count right is important, but do test a few times afterwards too to make sure her blood sugar is ok.
