Bit confused (again!)

Sorry to post again but I am slightly confused about my situation and wondered if anyone had any advice/similar experience please.
My HbA1c was 57 in February. This was about 3 weeks after a flu jab and 2 weeks after a Covid jab!
For years before this my Hb1Ac was between 36 and 46 so labelled pre-diabetic.
Since my one high result I have reduced all refined carbs (loosely following a low GI diet) and since the test result I have been using my blood sugar monitor 3/4 key times every day (fasting, pre-prandial & post-prandial) and it has hardly ever gone above 6 apart from a few 6.5s in the morning.
I know I’m going to sound like I’m in denial here but is there any chance with a result like that after jabs and high carbs I can actually be still pre-diabetic or at least back in the pre-diabetic range.
Also - I see on the website it has blood sugar reading 11.1 as being ok in the non/pre diabetic range - so if I had some spikes before (no more than 9) it could be still ok?
I suppose ultimately it doesn’t matter in many ways as despite being pretty scared/upset since the result I know I need to eat lower carb and live healthier so maybe it’s been a good wake-up call.
Thanks for reading if you get this far!

At the moment of the blood draw for your hba1c you were diabetic, as your blood glucose must have been in the diabetic range to reach that hba1c.
But it's very well possible to go back to prediabetic or even non diabetic numbers, and if you've reduced the carbs ans seeing numbers mainly below 6 I would expect your next hba1c to be much lower again.

HbA1cs show a rough average of blood glucose levels over approx 2-3 months.

Your HbA1c result of 57 (in mmol/mol equates to around 9 mmol/l (the reading you get on a finger prick test).
So that means that your blood glucose was way above normal (the green area on the graphic) for weeks at a time.

It is great that you have made such good changes to your way of eating, and that your finger prick readings are now so good, but with an HbA1c of 57 you had sustained blood glucose as diabetic levels for weeks if not months before the test was taken.

Hi all. Just an update. To recap I had an Hb1Ac of 57 in February which freaked me out as I was then officially diagnosed as diabetic. After 3 months of low carb, high fat & protein and intermittent fasting I had my follow up blood test last week and my HbA1c is now 37! I am so pleased (the doctor was less jubilant and just said you are still a diabetic ) but I am feeling really positive and if anyone is freaking out like I was and needs inspiration I thought sharing my turnaround might help!!

Well done Felicity!
Its ironic your doctor not being jubilant as on similar numbers my DN keeps trying to tell me I never was diabetic and deny me further tests! There is such disparity across the nation

Great levels but don’t worry about being tagged as diabetic, it means you continue to be able to have the yearly checks you need. Only drawback and it’s minor is lack of free prescriptions (to be fair, only applies if ever on diabetic drugs) but for your health, it’s a price worth paying to my mind

plus we all need to remember, it’s waiting to get us if we reverse our change in life, I see it as a warning that I will always hold in place… I also know too many carbs and my spikes are well above non diabetic levels so yes… diabetic, and that’s okay
