Hubby is the diabetic, type 2, diet controlled. But he has various other heath probs and that is causing a bit of a guddle.
He has Pernicious Anaemia, heart disease, occasional angina, very low thyroid.. and is on loads of pills. He has got to the stage where he hates the doc, and won't go. I don't blame him at all as they haven't been a lot of help. We've had more probs from his medication than anything else, and we are now trying to use supplements and diet as far as poss, instead of increasing amounts of pills.
The prob is that he has ongoing persistent constipation caused by one of the meds he takes, and the doc just prescribes orange gunk to drink twice daily that makes him sick. He looks anaemic and probably needs iron - but can't take the risk of supplements because of this constipation. I am trying to help with diet but a lot of the things they advise miht not be ok for a diabetic- like blackstrap molasses. Has anybody any suggestions and sorry it's such a rant !
EDITED- He is taking all of his meds, we are not stopping any, just trying to use diet to enhance.

Maybe he is just short of fibre and water. He needs to drink gallons of water. Have you thought of some ground flaxseed to add to yogurts or stews? Full of fibre and protein. What about more iron from food? If he isn't vegetarian then red meat and liver are good sources, plus beans and nuts.
