Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
I've noticed that if I have a shower before I test it is invariably higher than the mornings when I test before having a shower. Can the activity of showering be enough to cause ' liver dump' ?

hi sue,
could it be down to your digestion?.
As you probably know, Overnight your stomach shuts down digestion
so your body can concentrate on other things(like repairing itself).
The next morning, gradually your stomach wakes up and begins
digestion again(starts putting sugar into your blood stream).

It could be that the exercise involved in your morning shower is giving your
stomach more of a 'kickstart' than when you don't shower.

hope this helps,
timo.

P.S
I think trying to blame our old friends gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis is
a bit unfair sue.

I also find that my bs increases after a time in the mornings, & I assumed it was for the reason given by Tim. It can be higher in the morning than it was before I went to bed.

Just before we let the liver off scot-free we should remember that it is
part of the digestive system and so could have a role in all this.

Is it possible that you have shower gel or other preparations you use for showering still on your fingers as (so I'm told) this can make a difference to your readings.

Regards Val

I'd much rather talk about timotei, 'liver dump' was making my head hurt.

Never thought of that either! This is getting complicated.I suppose the only way to be sure would be to do a test before and after shower.

So according to the link sue kindly posted: the release of glucagon,
cortisol and adrenaline is actually responsible for both types of
dawn phenomenon but their release in the Somogyi effect is in a
much more "panic stations" way (due to hypo).

It's also interesting to note that the term 'liver dump' is more closely
associated with the Somogyi effect than with the more insidious
form of dawn phenomenon.

Hi All
Made me curious so thread as i Generaly have Raised BS when i wake up in the mornings. Tested my BG as soon as i woke up Before doing anything else, as i always do and i got a reading of a nice 6.1 AFTER i showered but before i even had my morning cup of tea i had went upto 6.9 VERY strange. If i did not have to supply my own test stips id check this every day for a week just to see what happens.

Has anyone else tried this yet.

Brian

hi brian,
a variation of 0.8 could be down to your test meter.
I've had bigger variations than .8 doing back to back tests on my meter.
But having said that, a lot of people do seem to get this rising effect first thing
in the morning(no pun intended  ) - and it's actually made worse by not eating.
