Hi, I had my first retinal screening this week. Started with my right eye. He said he wanted to get 2 good images, but for the first 2 attempts I blinked at the wrong time so he ended up taking 4 shots. Then moved on to the left eye, which is currently frozen with Bell's Palsy so no danger of blinking at the wrong time. He took at least 10 images of this eye, kept saying he couldn't get a clear shot. Then he took an extra shot of the front of my eye. When I had my glasses back on I saw this image on the screen, showing the front of my eye. I took it at face value that he was struggling to get a decent shot but, me being me, I've not been able to get it out of my mind ever since and wonder what it all means. Is it normal to do a shot of the front of the eye or is it usually just the retina?

This is quite normal. If they can't get a clear picture of the retina, photographers take a picture of the front of the eye to show anything that might be affecting the quality of the image, e.g. cataract or poor pupil dilation. This helps the person grading the image to decide the correct outcome.

Got the result today. Images were not clear enough to be able to report a result. Now being referred to a specialist who will use different equipment to get a clearer view. Should I worry now?

Try not to, hard as it is I had my 1st NHS retinal test this week, which was ok.
Nov last year when I had my lenses replaced, they did a retinal test, I had to go 3 times, the 1st machine wasn't getting to back of my eye, the used a different machine and it came back clear.
